Good God why?

I'm surprised there hasn't been a Clone Wars-esque animated series about the Skynet war. Seems like such an obvious idea.

A Robocop movie reboot is also in the works. And I can already predict it'll suck. Good grief, I haven't watched a good movie for ages.
About the Mirror Edge reboot: It's not a bad idea at all, considering the first game had many wrongs. It's like they want to make the same game again, but without doing the same mistakes, and add new features, such as an open world.

Were you even alive when the first Robocop came out?

Nope

I saw the Robocop trailer and the thing that bugs me about it was the 80s aesthetic throwback for Robocop himself jars a lot with the modern CoD Hollywood aesthetic to everything else.

Looks better than the Total Recall remake. Though that's not saying much.

Not sure about the trailer, there's really nothing in it that makes me pump my fist and shout "Yeah!". Despite that, there are a couple of reasons to be optimistic about this movie.
The cast
The leadrole is played by Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman. I've only seen him in one movie, Snabba Cash, but iirc he was pretty good in it, and delivered exactly the kind of restrained icy performance that might also fit well for the role of a... oh I don't know, robotic cop? The rest of the cast includes Samuel Jackson, Gary Oldman, and Michael Keaton.
The director
Jose Padilha is the Brazillian guy who directed the excellent copthrillers Tropa de Elite 1 & 2. Just like Kinnaman he is making his Hollywood debut with this movie. Two talented guys with something to prove front and center of the production? That can't be a bad thing.

The very minute people stop accepting garbage, something better will be available. There's probably better stuff already made, but just sitting on shelves because it's not worth the time and energy to try and get it out there when nobody wants it.
Why would any industry take the effort to produce something good when their desired audience is satisfied with crap? Keep shoveling-in the crap and rake in the money. It's not their role anymore to create art. That era is gone and done with.
