forget Deus Ex I want W. Spector to obtain the rights for a new System Shock game - by laurent

Right now - Irrational is working on The Lost for the PS2 (which looks VERY cool, might i add) and Freedom Force. I guess theres the possibility that they could do it after they are done with one of them, but its always more beneficial to stay cynical.

The feeling that I got reading what was said after the Thief 3 chat log is that Ion Storm tried to get the rights from Electronics Arts for System Shock. Warren Spector but also Randy Smith said in two different chats that they would love to make another System Shock game. I guess Electronics Arts was not willing to sell the rights to Eidos or asked to much money. Maybe Electronic Arts is willing to sell the rights to a smaller publisher or a smaller developer like Irrational Games.

Everyone,
Please do not think Irrational will do another System Shock. Ken Levine has already openly admitted to turning Irrational towards the console market because of $$$'s. If another System Shock is made by Irrational, it will be on a console, and God help us all, because the controls will suck.

Ah. I wasn't aware Irrational was going console.

Perhaps once Deus Ex 2 and Theif 3 ship, then ISA will start thinking about a System Shock sequel... By that point EA will have been sitting on the rights for a while, so maybe they'll be more willing to sell them.
Anyhow, I'm sure ISA with its Looking Glass refugees would make a wicked niftly SS3. Did any of the folk who made the original System Shock wind up at ISA?

no, just joking; but whats your MF problem with deus ex? after all , it's a good game and there will be a time where you'll be glad to be able to play deus ex 3000 instead of "Moorhuhnjagd 30" or "Deer Hunter 2000" or ... I don't know all the trash gamez in america, but europe is covered under an avalanche of this fuck.
just try to support spector in any way ... and we'll all make profit of it.

Plz do not criticize a game by your own feelings
it hurts others
I have yet to lay my hand on Deux Ex, I'd say it'd be a pretty cool game too

Why would the rights to SS be so expensive when it didn't sell well?

Rights to any game are expensive.

First of all Irrational Games will make games for the PC in the future, just read the Ken Levine interviews and secondly Eidos and Electronic Arts are the big players in the computer industry so game rights are not easily given to each other. The System Shock games didn't sell that well but it has huge name in the computer industry and there are few developers who wouldn't like to make a System Shock game. Warren Spector and former Looking Glass members have expressed a wish to make another Shock game so I think that Electronics Arts is just keeping the rights until someone comes along with a good offer. If I am wrong System Shock is something from the past and that would be a sad ending for something that at least gave me a lot of hours of great game pleasure. Ps I am french so forgive my bad english.

Laurent,
Nobody said that Irrational wasn't going to make games for the PC, this is your assumption based off of my statement. Please take my words as they are in the sentence and do not confuse them with your own interpretation.
As for interviews with Ken Levine...I have read them, and he has stated that the console market brings in so much more money than the PC market for games and that Irrational will be venturing out into the console market. If they have success there, then irrational might turn fully into a console game developer. Ken was questioned about staying true to the PC and he could not make a 'FOR SURE' statement about always making games for the PC.
The world is driven by sex and money, and in the gaming world, the developers are looking for the money. There are very few developers that will not betray the PC world, and I mean very few. If they can make more money out in the console market, then they're going to. For instance, look at Epic. They publicly said that Unreal 2 WOULD NOT be made for the XBox because the XBox would not be able to support the technology. On that very same day that they made that public announcement, they then made another public announcement that they WOULD make Unreal 2 for the XBox.
You tell me what's wrong with the above scenario? What caused them to change their mind? Did they all of a sudden, in the span of just a couple of hours, make the Unreal 2 engine compatible with the XBox?

Well, I have got no problems with the sex part but I am not sure about all those console games and stuff. What's wrong with the PC? I hope that in 5 years there will still be some good games made for the PC but I am starting to doubt it. Lionheart is already planning to make a console version for their upcoming game Black and White and Peter Molyneux stated that this is the platform of the future. What is so special about consoles and the XBox.
