forget Deus Ex I want W. Spector to obtain the rights for a new System Shock game - by laurent

hmmm, i didn't like SS2 as much as the original System Shock... don't get me wrong they're both in the top league, but System Shock is the superior best game I have ever played and still play on occasions, and Deus Ex is on a clear second place. I think it's wise by Warren Spector to continue in the Deus Ex universe. Although, if someone's going to do a SS3, it's Spector, the cyberpunk gaming God, as you so nicely and correctly put it....

Ive always wondered - WHY didnt the System Shock games do well commercially? I mean, dont people like good games?

you know, I've wondered that too and have some theories. as for the first game- i think it was because it was just too far ahead of it's own time. I mean, most people probably preffered the simplicity of Doom back than. Atleast I know, I did, hehe. didn't discover System Shock until much later... I just wish i had been aware of it sooner. As for SS2, again, it was sort of first out of it's kind. It's not until recently that most action games take on some RPG and Thief style gameplay. It's still strange though, considering how amazingly well they have scored in reviews...

I think your right about the first game. But the second is still a mystery to me.

I've noticed that alot of people were wary of SS2's difficulty level. Sometimes I think games like SS2 fall between preferences such as braindead FPS's or RPG fanatics, with neither group buying games like SS2,thief etc. Most of my friends love Quake, Unreal, Half-life etc. but have no real interest in SS2 or thief 'cos they involve some learning and dedication. To people who love braindead FPS's (and they are clearly in the majority) I think the games we all love look boring or involve too much thinking.
But as I constantly say to FPS heads if only they'd spend say 6/7 quality hours with SS2, Thief, Deus Ex etc. they'd be converts and would understand true love for a game!
But anyway its their loss I guess. But hey didn't Deus Ex sell well? Amazing considering many knew they were buying in to some choppy graphical moments but still lapped it up. Deus Ex's success could mean people are finally getting bored with dull FPS's. Ironic if true 'cos that means SS2(like the original) was born at just the wrong time.
Though I loved both I definately preferred SS2 over DX...

Deus Ex is cool, System SHock 1-2 is cool, but Irrational Games is making an engine test on the Lithtech2.0 engine for SS3. So who will shoot to the other for the rights ?
I hope that doesn't finish in a deadlock.

Whered you hear that engine test thing for SS3 at Irrational? That sounds like a crock a ****. Maybe you have it confused with The Lost. They are using the LithTech for that.

BackDoorBandit, I'm confused. In what way can

Please do not think Irrational will do another System Shock. Ken Levine has already openly admitted to turning Irrational towards the console market because of $$$'s. If another System Shock is made by Irrational, it will be on a console, and God help us all, because the controls will suck.
be interpreted as other than "Irrational are not making PC Games any more"?
First you imply that there won't be another System Shock. Then you imply that Irrational are moving towards console rather than PC. Then you imply that future Irrational games will absolutely, definitely be on console.
Sigh.
