forget Deus Ex I want W. Spector to obtain the rights for a new System Shock game - by laurent

A System Shock demo was released on the 3rd or 4th issue of PC Gamer I believe, thats where I first learned about it. Some time during 93 or 94 when I was in high school. I played that demo and loved it...then Doom came out and there went the market. I had already played a doom demo, wolfenstein 3d, and a number of FPS genre clones which were all new back then...but different names and weapons dont actually make for a different game. The FPS market choked on itself a bit as only a few titles managed to get anywhere, unreal, doom, duke nukem(i remember when DN was a side scroller). Anyhow, System Shock was quickly tossed aside for Doom and it's boring ilk. It always got great reviews and everyone that played it loved it, but I just dont think alot of people knew about it when it first came out.
I think alot of people learned about it way way later on, a few years or so when the FPS market was REALLY REALLY REALLY saturated with boring Doom clones. SS has almost become the cult classic, the little engine that could. It's what alot of designers I think look up to and it's the real the beginning of games like Thief and Deus Ex. At least thats the way I see it. When someone says Deus Ex is an FPS I say naaaa, FPS are boring, Deus Ex is an SS!
I went and picked up System Shock and never regretted it....that game has and most likely will always be in my top games.

Count,
I say this so that people do not get their hopes up, but on the same token, I mean what I say. With the coming of the Xbox, and the Playstation 3 already in pre-development, developers are jumping to the console market. The PC will be here to stay, at least for a little while, but if Irrational makes another System Shock 3, they will make it for the console. Did I say that they WOULDN'T make it for the PC? No, I didn't. I simply said they will make it for console, and god help us, because the controls will suck. This is true....if you've every played any game made for the console, then ported to PC, the controls suck. I can sit here all day and try explaining what I said, but I won't.
You may read between the lines of what other people say, but don't read between the lines of what I say. Take my words for face value. If I meant that they would never make it for the PC, then i would've stated so.

BackDoorBandit,
I have some constructive criticism for you. Since you are a moderator and since you are in charge of the Deus Ex website here at TTLG, this implies a certain amount of insider knowledge regarding certain topics. I think it would be a good idea if you clearly delineated when you are speaking from knowledge that you have from your relationship with ISA and others, and when you are voicing an opinion.

*Complete speculation that's sure to get Bandit's attention.*
I think you have more information than you tell us. Whether it's good and you can't tell us because you made a promise to someone important, or it's bad -- You don't tell us because it would destroy the Shock forums.
I got my eye on you. *squints*

I know ISA members, and some Irrational Games Austrailia members as well. Yet I have not heard any thing of the sort that if Irrational did an SS3 they will be doing it for a console, nor have I heard that Irrational is moving to console only.
I believe, BackDoorBandit, these are some of your own opinions, but not entirely factual in that Irrational is going only console.
Freedom Force, as you all know is for the PC, and The Lost is for the PS2. Other than that, it has yet to be determined whether or not they are going totally console (IG Boston could go console, and IG Austrailia could stay PC, who knows).
just my 2 cents.
