Ah. I wasn't missing a key. I was missing something round, shiny and valuable.
[spoiler]Specifically, it was the orb in the abbot's quarters. Always remember that when you're in the big guy's bedroom, you should check all the furniture.[/spoiler]

I can't think of a mission with more switches. I'm amazed I found as many as I did. Entertaining mission, more along the lines of Lost City than Bonehoard, but that was fine.

So I've read and re-read both this thread and the Polish thread trying to find the vault entrance. People keep mentioning ladders and the tops of bookshelves, but could someone be more precise as to where in the upper library the switch is? Is it in the forbidden section? thanks for any help

[spoiler]It's on the top of one of the bookshelves in the main part of the 2nd floor of the library. Not the forbidden part. Facing the stained glass windows, I think it's the shelf farthest to the front on the left, or maybe the middle one. Anyway, the switch is small and near the outer end of the shelf, on the top.
If you've got a flare, that would help picking it out. And I'd bet you've got about 50 or so.[/spoiler]

I had exactly the same problem. I looked for hours, even though people has written hints. So I'll explain in detail. First, you need to find the main Library, the one that ticks off the Library objective. It seems you have. Then:[SPOILER]Go upstairs (the stairs are found outside a door in the first level), and find the upstairs library. You will see that all bookshelves on that level have ladders on their ends. In the first section you encouter, not behind the fence, climb the ladders, crouch, and look down carefully all over the top surface of each bookshelf. On one of them is a small toggle switch.[/SPOILER]I went up and down all those bookcases 2-3 times before I saw it.:)
