Norman Druart,
Regarding Bernard's room (on the left as you enter the compound)
There is a key. Go around and blind frob around the window frame.
I could not find a key for the opposite room, so
I bashed it.
Regarding objectives:
I triggered all the objectives in advance by frobbing things, such as reading various notes and plaques. I forget where.
Hello! Playing on expert...
I read about the lumberjack objective here, but I haven't triggered it, yet I think I've covered everything there is to do. I'm still quite short of loot, though.
I've been in the house, been into the storage shed and Bernard's rooms (I bashed in the door before finding the key - could that have foiled the lumberjack objective?), been into the unlocked hut with the pagan man and the floor niche covered in boards, been in the little temple and frobbed the skull to find the apple, been all over the tombs and got horn and lots of loot (hadn't found the secret - need to go back for that!) - for once, found all switches and keys without any help :) What else... been in the garbage chute - that's how I got into the house the first time.
So... does anyone remember what they did to trigger the lumberjack/wine barrel objective? I tried to put it there anyway, but nothing happened.
Finally: someone wrote about an air bubble ??? Am I missing an area?
EDIT:
Nevermind on the air bubble - super nice touch, that! Also picked up a the stray coins I needed to meet the loot requirement, so now it's just sheer curiosity holding me back regarding the lumberjack objective... okay, and I'm also curious about the Garret, your a bastard objective :D
Onward!
Cheers,
-M

Melissa,
At least on Expert, you trigger the wine objective by reading the note posted to the back side of the sign board right by the entrance of the compound.

i ran around with that damn barrel forever....if i remember...you need to take into the
trap door in the pagan's house
I think!!!!

Hmmmm... I read all of those. First things I read, in fact. I'll try it again.
Thanks!

That did the trick! THANKS, Norman! And I found the bonus objective (evil grin).
Timon, thanks for a BLAST of a mission! I look forward to part 2!
Cheers!

Thanks, Nightwalker :)
Turns out I was more than a little confused about where I was, always lethal in Thief :D Anyway, I found out who Constance was, and this time I got -- I think -- all of the objectievs, except of course I'm 115 short of loot. I'm sure it's here somewhere....

[Folks]
Finally finished; yep, I'd crouch-walked right past that key about thirty times... I always walk that way*, since I'm more shadowed.
I did manage to ghost it. The hardest areas to ghost were the spiders, both the one in the sewers and also the one at the very beginning, heading into the compound. That spider was a bugger!
I tried shooting the glowing mushroom with a broadhead, but the bushes were in the way, and the arrow kept stopping before it got all the way to the 'shroom: the angle was bad.
I had to lug a big boulder as I crept up on her. I dropped the boulder in a strategic spot where it blocked her vision during the crucial few feet when I was brightly lit enough and close enough to be spotted. It worked, and I got past her.
The spiders in the sewer were a lot easier to ghost; it required incredibly slow creeping, but nothing fancy except for the moment, right after you descend the ladder, when you must go around the open doorframe (there's no door there, just a doorframe); I kept alerting them. I had to wait for the one brief moment when all three spiders turned their butts away from me simultaneously to dart around and into darkness again.
Other than that, it was just careful creeping. The spiders in the tombs were not tough; plenty of darkness to hide in.
I noticed a weird thing about the thief patrolling around the big tower on stilts: he would get into a rut where he would start patrolling about five feet, turn, five feet back, turn, and so forth... completely impossible to get past, since he's never looking away long enough to get through the lit zone. But I discovered that if I saved and reloaded, he returned to his correct patrol path, the one he is supposed to follow, which gave me plenty of time to move around while he was elsewhere.
I made the mistake the first time I ran in there of actually running in there; this woke up the pagan lumberjack, who proceeded to stare fixedly out the window. As it's well lit out there, I couldn't get past without alerting him. I had to load an earlier savegame, and this time crouch-run past his window, which let him sleep in peace.
I never did find or activate the "Garrett you bastard" objective; Melissa, can you post (or PM me) how you did it? It sounds interesting.
I did manage to find the secret all by myself... yay, Dafydd :thumb: . Didn't think of slashing the Timon (of Athens?) picture until I read it here, though.
Heigh ho, I think I'll just copy this for my ghost report over on the Other Forum, rather than rewriting.
Lots of fun & larfs; good FM!

Surely! I'll give a few hints, then the answer:
Little hint:
Think about a letter you have in your inventory
Bigger hint:
Who might be pissed off to find such a letter?
Answer:
Put the letter from Bernard to Alice on the desk in the secret study on the 2nd floor of the house
Have fun!
