My issue with FarCry sniping is actually the draw distance. Getting shot at by guys in the open whom you cannot see because the screen isn't rendering them isn't really the kind of difficulty I want to deal with. But the "they see you" meter keeps it from being actually difficult in practice. Just annoying. (The difficulty in FarCry comes in the later levels and doesn't have anything to do with sniping.)

Oh, I know.....but it actually plays into it more often than you'd think. I've also noticed that the AI seems to be differently observent in different locations. Thugs stationed in places like watch towers and on cliffs tend have their attention focused outwards, while often being semi-oblivious to anything near them. The opposite is also true, so I suspect that a lot of the AI's are scripted to focus on different parts of the map.
