I am probably the only one here who likes the original Red Faction... Played it a decade ago when it was new and have enjoyed each revisit.
Not by a long shot. I fucking love that game. Zylon loves to rip on it, and I love to praise it. It is a Half-Life clone and a rip-off of Total Recall in some aspects, but it is fun. Not like visceral, brutal FPS's are today but fun, solid, LONG FPS games of the past. I really like the weapons and gameplay. The ability to literally chew through the scenery was cool as shit.

I have RF installed at the moment and dip into it now and again. I never managed more than about an hour of the 2nd one - is it worth going back to?

God Red Faction was literally the first game I had for my PS2. I beat it once and never even looked at the fucking thing ever again. Mediocre as hell.

It's "GOG" you ninnyhammers. The O stands for "Old", not "of" or "or".
Fair enough. I always forget that for some reason. GoG aligns with how I pronounce it though... Goodold Games.

The 2nd game is weird. It looks, plays, and feels different in almost every respect. It does not feel like a sequel at all. It is about as familiar as Red Faction: Guerilla is. Now that I think about it, what is up with that? Every game in the series is about as far removed from the others as possible.
Anyway... I personally did not like the second game that much. It was a generic last-gen console shooter and it felt soulless. I guess it isn't 'bad' though, but you aren't missing much by skipping it. To contrast, the first game was memorable nearly throughout and the third had me hopping outta my seat with the explosive badassery.

Yea, but if we spell GoG properly you'll stop getting your panties in a twist every time and where would the fun in that be?
But yea, GoG FPS section has a lot of good titles; I'd definitely watch out for GoG sales, they're frequent and you can accumulate tons of games super cheaply "to-play-later." That's what I've been using GoG for mostly.
.... GoG

I found the 2nd game to be a very boring experience. Worth only play. Waste of money compared to the 1st game.

To be fair though, there's other series that have done that. Final Fantasy games have had extremely diverse settings. Mass Effect 2 was a huge change up and still worked. System Shock's sequel also had some very large changes gameplay wise.
I'm also blocking on it, but there was another series involved where the developers state that they try make each sequel as different as possible from the previous entry.

Yeah, the third game is excellent. I may have to re-play that again some time soon.

Red Faction 1's "Geomod" gimmick was underused thoroughly in its SP campaign, in fact as you progressed the game used it increasingly sparingly. Wooo, you can unlock the occasional secret location or bypass the odd locked door in the early missions... SO USEFUL!!!!111
Geomod really shined in the multiplayer though, but other than that you were better off sticking to far superior games like UT or Q3A.
The thing about RF1 that stuck out for me was that it came out years after HL1, but looked worse and had shittier overall polish. I.e. inferior animations, far worse AI (they would run directly at you). It may've suffered because of PS2 development, I guess?
