I got a message from a college friend of mine, John Millen, giving away free copies of his boardgame "Tribes of Pangea". His message says he's paying for shipping too. (He's in Austin TX, USA. Might want to clarify the shipping part if you're outside the US.)
So the story is, he designed this game and had 2000 of them manufactured, sold over 1000, but has about 1000 left sitting in his garage he wants to get rid of, giving as many away as he can and the rest go in a landfill. Here's the (
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/24191/tribes-of-pangea) BGG page for the game with pictures and a description, and some (
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/120076/review-for-tribes-of-pangea-from-millen-entertainm) reviews. Looks sort like Civilization-lite, with Axis & Allies style combat.
I never played it so I can't speak for the game, though I have heard friends liking it and the BGG score is decent. I do know John and I can vouch for him; he's as honest as they come. I'm just forwarding his offer because I know some people here are boardgame fans and free game is free. There's nothing commercial or otherwise behind it. It's not even a promo since he's a high school teacher that just did this in his free time. I do sympathize with him rather wanting them to go to gaming fans than just thrown away.
So ... the way you get the game according to his message is: "e-mail me at john.millen [at] gmail.com, and make the subject be, “I WANT FREE GAMES”. Include your address so I can ship them to you." (Again if you're out of the US, probably want to ask him about shipping.)
He says he wants to give them away six at a time (he actually asks to title the email “I WANT SIX FREE GAMES”). So in your email you might also clarify if you really want SIX of them. I suspect if you don't specify that, he'll ship six of them anyway. I think his thinking is people will give them away as holiday presents (or just throw the other 5 away).
Anyway, that's the offer. Again, I don't want to spam anybody. I'm just restating the offer and if you like boardgames then you might be interested.

Well hell, I'll take it.

Heck, why not? Thanks for the tip-off.
Thinking about it, I swear I've seen this thing before in a tabletop gaming store in a mall, at least I think I did.

Nope.

I didn't hear back from him on my email either, but I *did* hear back on his blog saying something like "400 games down, 600 more to go woohoo", which makes me think he's gotten a lot of emails but ... He needs to respond if only with a copy-pasted canned "Thanks for your blah blah. You can expect blah blah in 2-3 weeks" or whatever.
Edit: Ok, I sent him a FB message asking what's up.

I got a reply:
Quote:
It will come. Don't worry. If I got the address, I didn't reply back. I will get it to them.... Probably first weekend of December...
So that's good. The more I think about it, if he got like 80+ responses and didn't set up any automated system to reply, I can understand him just copy-pasting the address and moving on. Anyway, all's well that ends well.
