(
http://java.mob.org/game/thief_deadly_shadows_episode_2.html)
i am not sure if part 1 is free, but each game has 8 mission for a total of 16 missions in all
i am not able to get it with phone i got
i wish there was a way to play this on my pc home computer,or have a talented fan mission author remake all the mission on thief 1/2
and here is a link to some video of the first mission, and the cool part is at end of each mission i think you run the thieves highway to sell loot for next mission (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPJa_UElON4)
(
http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Thief:_Deadly_Shadows_Mobile) wiki link scroll down to read complete text for story, very interesting, also shows loot items, like
Julian's bag
The Holy Chalice
The Rutherford Opal
The Rare Book
The Golden Crown
The Kershok's Crown
Jacknall's Paw
The Keeper's Heart
The Keepers Eye
notice last 2 loot items were never in games, would be cool to have some fan missions with those :P
from what i read of story it takes place after thief 2 and before thief 3

Nice find !
I wasn't aware of it.
Luckily at least Episode1 should play on my ancient Nokia 5100 (128x128).
(Episode2 would blow away my tiny display, I guess) :ebil:

Well, of course there is a way to play it on your PC, because this is how you create such apps.
Unfortunaltey - as far as I understand - not all modern SmartPhones support J2ME anymore.
(I am still sticking with my old crap and can't tell for sure)
So, getting an emulator up and running on your PC might be your only chance.
I wrote a J2ME application myself a couple of years ago.
Maybe this article helps a bit.
(
http://osbusters.blogspot.de/2013/03/How-to-Run-JAVA-Mobile-Games-Apps-on-Windows-PC_22.html)
Be aware that many emulators might be around, and that that one might not be the best or easiest to set up. Don't know.
Buzzwords for googleing appropriate stuff: j2me, midlet, game, emulator, pc
Since my ancient Nokia 5100 won't run Episode 2 at any rate anyway - due to requiring a larger display than 128x128 - , I might actually have a go at it myself some time in autumn (MAYBE, that is).
Edit: I gave a try to (
http://www.javaemulator.com/java-emulator.php) KEmulator, and it pretty much worked like a charme with basicly just one click.
As outlined in the article above, you first need to install a (
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html) Java Runtime (JRE).
Then install KEmulator and select the jar for either episode.
The only problem appears to be that there are issues playing the midi-sounds.
After the first sound there is an exception found in the logs and the remaining game is quite.
The exception appears to be commonly known and indicates that there is an issue in the setup-code in the games themselves.
Would be nice to know if the sound ever worked correctly on a real device.

Is there an easy way to run it on a smart phone (I have S4 mini)?

My phone won't work with this game, but I got it to work on PC by following the steps I've laid out below. I'm playing it now! The controls seem kind of strange and I'm not sure if they can be reset by any means. I also wonder if the display size can be enlarged? [EDIT]I found that there is an option to "zoom in" under the "tool" menu.
1. I followed (
http://java.mob.org/game/thief_deadly_shadows_episode_2.html) Downwinder's link.
2. Not selecting a phone or model, I just downloaded the jar file(240x320).
3. I placed this .jar file in a folder in my games directory.
4. I needed an emulator, I ended up finding the “KEmulator” (
http://kemulator.en.softonic.com/download) here.
5. Creating a folder for the emulator in my games directory, I installed KEmulator there and ran the program entitled KEmulator.exe.
6. I clicked on "Midlet", "Load .jar...", then I found the .jar in my directory and clicked open to run it.
I read a tutorial on how to use KEmulator (
http://www.netmediablog.com/how-to-play-mobile-games-on-pc-using-emulator) here (scroll down the page to the part titled “How to Play Java (.jar) mobile games on PC using emulators”).
I basically just loaded the jar using this emulator and it works, as gnartsch says, like a charm.:)

now that you got it to work ,how is story of game? does it add anything new to storyline? was i right in saying it takes place after thief 2 and before thief 3 or during thief 3?
can someone put the entire missions on youtube i would love to see a lets play of it
gnartsch on 26/4/2014 at 17:11
Well, due to the limitations of those ancient 'pre Smartphone' games, you can not really expect that these mission 'add' anything to the story line.
The story is rather stripped down to the absolute minimum and the AI are pretty much stereotype.
You can not even tell the difference between Keepers, servants or any type of land lord.
Just the same for the locations.
The Thiefs Highway is pretty much a repetitive aspect as well.
So, don't expect anything exiting. But yeah, in case one could get the sound to work, it would be some fun on its own.

I have been trying to play this game, but it has been difficult since I cannot get the keypad to work for it. I have to use the horizontal selection of numbers to play the game, which is tedious to say the least; however, it also requires pressing the * key, which will not work for me since I have to press "shift+8" to get a "*". I'm not sure what key on my keyboard would be attached to the star, but several keys actually crash the game.
In short, it's been a struggle. That doesn't mean I won't try again to play it. If only there were a way to change the controls...
