This was a great event to watch live. Another reason to love the internet.
He seems to have opened his parachute a kilometer "earlier" than planned. Wonder how much difference that made to his free fall time.

The thing is I read he fell in less time than the previous record which was almost 10km less distance, because he was going so much faster. I don't think freefall time is the stat to focus on, but freefall distance to really appreciate it. Besides it's so much cooler that he broke the sound barrier and completely worth the cost of not having the longest freefall time. A human being actually breaking the sound barrier with nothing more than their mass and gravity just sounds epic.
