sorry, i just rechecked the frictional store page, found the key, started downloading and thought it's early release. I'm fooled as well. had my light turn off and candle ready, double-clicked ..... aaaargh.... 21 hours left. maybe frictional will release it sooner...
PS: rps review says it's brilliant - althoug I only read intro/conclusion as not to get spoiled.

This is the first time I've preordered something on Steam, so...what happens? Does it go live at Midnight, or do I have to wait for some specific "unlock hour" before I'm able to play the game?

Depends on the game. Keep in mind that for midnight unlocks, its based off Pacific Time Zone.

I don't think I've been this excited for a new release in ages. I wish I could take off tomorrow and paly it, although it might not be out until I'm home from work anyway.

More like 10 AM PST. : \
Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait another 11 or so hours before I'm able to get it. Oh, and I can't preload the game. And I don't get a 'nix copy. And...er...hell, this sucks. I knew I should've spent the extra 2 bucks and grabbed it directly from Frictional. Now here I am, saving a tiny bit of cash, but missing out on all the neat bonuses.

well this is out, yet it's time to go to work :nono:
But I have a date tonight. With madness.

I managed to play 1,5 hours during sunrise when it was still dark outside.....MADNESS I tell you indeed. sofar it's a "winner", I literally had 2 situations where I cried out loud "oh no oh no oh no" but what they really nailed is the creeping dread and "edge of your seat" atmosphere. I FEAR going back this evening. I can't tell you how happy I am to be degraded to a whimpering ball of fear in a corner, mumbling to myself ingame and "outgame". mouse control is snappier this time as well. could this be the game of 2010 I was waiting for after a lackluster Mafia2 ?

Played this for a bit until I found the first key and I'm about to... descend... in the lovely dark chambers of the castle.
(I don't consider spoilers anything that follows, but if you don't want to know certain things about the gameplay and want to find out yourself, don't read)
Speaking of the dark, I find the whole "you are going insane because a candle is not lit" complete total bullshit. I never liked the night vision in Penumbra, but now I take a toll just from hiding in the shadows? I know it's supposed to make you feel vulnerable and I guess it's not that much of a big deal (even if the game is a tiny bit about... stealth) ( but... really now. I'm inclined to go ahead and just let him go insane so I can see what the effects are. Actually if the effects involve more wobbling from side to side, I'd rather not see them after all. I don't know who thought that a long period of time in which you walk with your vision skewering about was a good idea to include at the very beginning of the game, but it became annoying after the first ten seconds (the character has a headache, I GOT IT GAME, no need to try and make me feel motion sickness, geez).
Anyway, it's been pretty fun so far.
