Why speechless, Gunny? It seems like a common outcome for indie pc only releases ...

I dunno...this came from left field, and I detect a bit of arrogance in the post. Almost like YOU IDIOTS DIDN'T BUY ENOUGH COPIES SO WERE GONNA SELL OUT TO DA' CONSOLES. Almost a bit of a threat lingering in the subtext.

Maybe if they'd advertised more.

It's just the guy's English I think. He does say it did better than expected once or twice, but also says it was disappointing a few times too.
Without numbers it's hard to say, but I guess they were hoping for a major hit that would set them up for a while. But they can't really have expected that, can they? Despite how connected we all think we are and the internet the big the engine of culture and cool etc it's still true likely that if you don't have huge displays at EB games, ads on TV, in print and at the movies, banner ads on the big web sites, massive installations at trade shows etc you're just not going to be all that famous unfortunately.
I guess I'm one of the ones waiting, if not for a sale then for later. I'm arguably the core audience for this sort of thing, but I've got way too many games I haven't touched as it is.
I do think it'll sell slowly and steadily for the rest of the year at least.

I'm sure they advertised as much as their budget allowed them to.
That said it sounds like they may have unrealistic expectations and also I fail to see how raising the price is going to increase revenue for an indie game like this. If anything lowering it and getting some publicity via a Steam Sale (I believe this worked well with the Penumbra games) would get some cash flowing in, a strategy they will undoubtedly follow eventually.

I think this guy's jumping the gun a bit - the game has only been out for a week. I'm sure there are lots of people who just haven't got around to buying it yet (I'm one of them, and I'm a diehard Penumbra fan). With the reviews it's been getting, they'll sustain a decent amount of sales over the next 3-6 months, possibly longer.
Did he really expect to be set for life after one week of sales? :weird: They seem to be in deep on the marketing angle, judging by his comments in the article, but this just doesn't add up. Penumbra had a huge spike in sales after that Indie bundle sale, and that was several years after release.

I'm pretty sure first week is when most sales take place, at least that's how it is in bigbudgetland. Indie games might like to trickle more.

I probably wouldn't even know the game existed were it not for TTLG. Penumbra had much more advertising/previews.

This seems to be their first time self publishing, though.
