Didn't even realize there was DLC for this game until I checked the (
http://www.frictionalgames.com) website just now (released back in May!).

The free Justine DLC was released as part of the Steam Potatosack thingy, and yes, it's very good. Only about 2 hours long though.

I just thought I'd repost my thoughts on Amnesia's lack of subtlety from another forum:
Quote:
(...)one thing I did remember from Amnesia was when you drain the water blocking the stairs and judging by the sounds, drown some poor woman in the process.
But other than that, it was all layered on too thick. So you enter a torture chamber. You see the bloodied torture devices. By this time in the game, you already know what your character was doing before his titular amnesia. You most likely feel uneasy. But that's not enough. The devs feel the need to attach an obvious scare script to each device, and some loud screaming noises. But hmm, maybe that's still not enough, maybe the player still doesn't understand what this nasty thing does! So, they attach a flavour text too, describing it. And so on, and so on. YES, I GET IT, SCARY TORTURE ROOM IS SCARY AND TORTUROUS. Yeesh.
And that goes for most scares in the game. Heck, they even ruined their "don't look at the monster!" idea by having a ludicrously gibbed corpse of one of them at one point. How is that supposed to be scary or mysterious anymore? And you can look at with no ill effects. Heck, you can throw around its head if you so desire.
Speaking of mystery, don't get me started on the cornucopia of voiceovers that explain in excruciating detail just what's going on. There's actually nothing left to the imagination in this game. Maybe except for just what the bloody hell that Agrippa's ending was supposed to be.
Oh, right, Agrippa. So you feel you're nearing the finale. If there's any tension in the game, it's now. Obviously this is the best spot to introduce a friendly, goofy alchemist with ze obnokschous gherman achcent. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

What did people think in general comparing Penumbra to Amnesia? I liked Amnesia, but I think overall I like the mood/atmosphere and gameplay in Penumbra better. I thought Penumbra was legitimately scary at times, while Amnesia was just sort of ho hum in that category. And yeah, Penumbra traveled the more subtle route while Amnesia was more "in your face" and obnoxious on the plot and effects side of things. Amnesia was probably more polished, but that doesn't mean much in my world.
Here's hoping they find a better balance for their next game - I'm still a big fan.

Yeah, I loved Penumbra. Amnesia meanwhile is a nifty adventure game, but it fails in the horror department.

That's not the common sentiment.

I found both to be great, but found Amnesia much scarier, better designed, less frustrating, more user-friendly and more atmospheric than Penumbra. To me it felt like a really great horror-themed Thief mission in a lot of ways.
Then again, I went into it wanting to have a good scary time, and allowed myself to get immersed. I'm sure the game's pretty boring if you put an internet troll hat on and snark your way through it.

You see, I had the same attitude as you. Generally, when I start playing a game it's usually something I want to like.

You're stupid.

It's like saying 'Candyman' in a mirror three times, isn't it
