i agree. I think David Lynch is dead serious about the serious themes he packs into his movies. and tongue-in-cheek about his tongue-in-cheek parts. which twin peaks had both of. humor and weirdness on the outside, dead serious on the inside. I don't know what the intention of the writers on Max Payne was but I took it as tongue-in-cheek and it worked perfectly (for me).
the few things I saw of AlanWake gameplay including dialogue seems to go for a good atmosphere but your sidekick - the, let's call him : funny guy, for lack of a better word, is annoying me and doesn't seem to be a good counterweight to the dread, on the contrary, he makes all the creepy and brutal happenings seem trivial. making jokes during the end of the world, ok, I could buy it if it were a bunch of desperate ppl on the verge of a breakdown, but not the 3 stooges on the search for Milla Jovovich.

I'd buy this game.

I don't. I think the closer his films get to "serious business" the more humorously surreal his ideas become.

Fixed.
Since that seems to be what everyone likes to do, and your comment was bullshit, I thought i'd "fix it."
Edit: Before you go on about how I posted this months later, I didn't see that post until today when TTLG sent me an email about this thread being posted in.

The hilarious part is that I don't think what I said was even all that offensive- and I was responding to gunsmoke anyway. Cry more.

I really enjoyed the Penumbra games. The best part was when you were crawling through those tunnels with the giant spiders and their nests along the sides. The eggs gave me the creeps, and so does the sound they make as they slowly hatch! The sounds of the air flowing through vents was also very well done. That soft whistling sound just gives me the chills.
I do think it would be better though if we weren't able to kill the enemies. Obviously this was rectified in the second game. Next time I play Overture, I'll have to not kill the spiders and see how it goes! It should make things even scarier.

lol points for hilarity.. but that doesn't change the fact that you're an arrogant assfuck who doesn't give a shit about anyone else's feelings. Plus, you were talking to me, just indirectly. Don't make excuses. It's like talking about me while I'm in the room and expecting me to just ignore what you said. I'm sick of assholes like you, so I'm always going to respond until you back the fuck off.

I think that's how it will be in the new game as well. I think they learned their lesson. Personally, it's kind of disappointing because I guess I'm so used to being able to defend myself... Oh well, I can just play other games to satisfy my shooting needs. :) (I actually just finished Dead Space on PC... That games is great.)

Well, apparently the source code for Penumbra: Overture is going to be released to the public. I'm personally hoping somebody hacks on a multiplayer mode to the game! We could have cooperative play, or some sort of scary CTF game, or infecteds vs humans (where humans must set traps for said infecteds).
No, it isn't just Doom 3, because this game actually had compelling atmosphere with high quality sounds. Now, how do you create an MP game with no guns?
If only The Dark Mod could have been built on this engine!... It seems less likely that we'll see the Doom 3 stuff open source any time soon, given that Rage was pushed back.
