I thought GOTY was a patched retail?
TheNightTerror on 18/8/2004 at 03:51
I have no idea which version I got. :erm: It was barely 10 bucks Canadian and I leapt on it. I don't remember any mention of it being a special version so it probably isn't.
Don't worry, I'd already decided I was going to avoid the Deus Ex forums until I was done with the game. All I knew about the game was that the first code was 0451. ;) I learned my lesson when I played Thief 2, no point in going into any detail but let's just suffice to say I knew who died in the second to last cutscene right after the character was introduced. I was *not* amused. I also found out virtually everything that happens in Thief 1, to boot. I like my plot twists unspoiled. :)
Well, there's one little thing I want to know. Simple yes or no answer will do. Does Terri Brosius do any voice acting in this game? I just want to know in case she sounds identical to normal Shodan or Viktoria, that way I'll be prepared and won't hurl my laptop across the room screaming bloody murder. :) Since hearing Viktoria for the first time caused that reaction it'll probably be worse now. ;)

Okay, the game's finally here. :ebil: It's a limited edition, so I assume that's the GOTY edition? The CD's a bit banged up, but I can repair it, so it's no big deal. :cheeky:
Out of morbid curiosity, would you guys be interested if I post a newbie's journal as I play through the game? I played the first 2 missions in the demo but I'm guessing I've got me plenty of game still ahead of me. :ebil:

From what I understand, that 'limited edition' is a demo & not the full game. I'm sure someone will correct me if this is wrong, but I remember seeing it mentioned on other forums........good luck though :)
TheNightTerror on 24/8/2004 at 08:27
That would be funny in a twisted sort of way if this is only the demo. Looking at the file size on the disk I'm a wee bit worried. I think I might've been duped. 364 megabytes? :weird: Might explain why it was so cheap. I could've sworn there was nothing about this being only the demo, though. :grr:
SHIT! I just lost hope. Looked at the autorun screen. 'Preview editon.' That'll teach me to go buying games until I've checked with the fellows here to make sure I avoid the dummy versions. The dummy I am, I leapt on a 'limited' version. I'll at least play through as far as I can, see just how much got cut. It should last me until I can get into the e-mail account of the person who bought the game for me, I can't find the link to the page it was on anymore. Unless I'm crazy, there's a slight difference between saying 'preview' and 'limited' edition. One implies a demo, one, at least to me, implies it's a special version of which few copies were made.
If you'll excuse me I need to put my head through the wall.

Uh-oh. The size of the pre-owned copy I just got is over 600 megs... I think you are screwed. :(
TheNightTerror on 24/8/2004 at 11:03
:ebil: Actually, I have the return address of the guy who sent it. If he really listed it as a 'special limited edition' like I think he did, he's screwed. (He very well might've, hell, it even says it on the CD case.:joke: It's "special" all right.) It's not much money, but I'm kinda broke, plus I don't like it when I have to ask someone for favors and end up getting them screwed, I'll need to be asking her to buy me another copy of the game. Sure, I'll be paying her back, but I'm not really amused by this. I just need to get back onto her Ebay account so I can get the item listing and find out exactly what he said . . .
Wait a minute, how stupid am I? Let's see if Ebay has auto-login . . . I might have more info in around 10 minutes perhaps? :ebil:
Edit: damnit, Ebay didn't auto-login. And I'm not about to try hacking. Just gotta wait a little longer until normal human beings wake up, hopefully she remembered to save the e-mail confirmations of the order. :ebil: He better have mentioned it being a demo for his own sake.
Edit 2: fixed typo
TheNightTerror on 24/8/2004 at 14:44
All righty, I finally got this sorted out. Definitely is the version that has only 5 missions, it was mentioned in the listing on the item, (right after information on how to pronounce the game's name:weird: ) but that's better than the 2 mission demo I downloaded, in a twisted way. Well, to be honest I got so immersed running around Hell's Kitchen (I believe) that I completely forgot about it, so I'm sure I'll get over this quickly, plus I have more money to shill out to get the full version. :ebil:
So, now that I'm going to be treading far more carefully, I think I'd better consult with the experts about what I should be looking for. :) I should be trying to get the GOTY version, right? Also, what's GOTY stand for? I know I'm brain-dead, I just don't want to overlook it by accident. :)
If I went from pissed to in heaven just playing a mission I played before, (although I ignored my fair share of side quests the first time) I think 3 new missions should keep me happy for quite a while. It's not often I leave myself dead in a computer game so I can crank the music that plays when you die to see how much bass my subwoofer can handle. :ebil: Good music, and an incredibly fun game are more than enough to keep me happy. :) I can wait for the GOTY version to appear on Ebay . . . the twitching I'm experiencing is hopefully only temporary. :)

GOTY=Game of the year
gogamer.com has both editions in stock plus a 4 Play Pack for $9.90 that includes the GOTY edition and Thief II, but I repeat myself. :thumb:
