I've had little success convincing people to play Thief. Although they are, of course, missing out on something great, I feel with them. Thief has a steep learning curve and require patience above all. And not all gamers have that much patience...
I had ONE friend though, who went all the way. He was a true hero. He even played it on a shitty computer with a broken monitor that was too dark (and, as you know, Thief's pretty dark as it is...) and NO graphics card. But I just had to introduce him to stackin' and he was hooked :D

I find any people i have introced fall into one of three categories.
1. The Coward- barely makes it passed Cragscleft without a change of pants. The Coward usually returns the game to me at approximately the Haunted Cathedral. (The first one)
2. The Dumb Dumb- usually gives up when he cant kill the guards in Lord B's place.
3.The Cowardly Dumb Dumb.
