Steam might be good if you buy & download your games online, but it royally sucks when forced on boxed games.
Lucky for you that From Dust isn't going to be a boxed game.

We shall see about that! *looks proudly at Machinarium steelbox on shelf*

Jesus, man. Step into the new Millennium. Most of us consider a retail copy a hassle these days, and I wouldn't know what to do without Steam. I have had only flawless experiences with Steam/Steamworks and the Friends, store, etc. are things I could not live without. Steam is the Facebook for PC gamers. Indispensable.

The irony is I still prefer boxed copies, even for Steam games. I just like showing them off I guess.

Being a collector with OCD out the ass, I loved boxed copies as well. I got over it around 9 months ago, however. The amount of game I buy/own just takes an INSANE amount of space to store, and then there is the hassle of finding them to install/play them (with the disc :(), patching them manually, and for what? I used to like looking at them, and having 'feelies' but meh. I am too old to care anymore. Just gimme the convenience of online games and a .pdf manual...and it's gravy.

Thing is, downloading games is pretty much the opposite of "convenient" for me. It's a broadband desert here. With the connection I do have, Steam actually fails to log in half of the time (it's the only app that has such problems, btw).

Even I think Steam's pretty cool, and I hated the idea of it before I actually tried it.
That said, I do like boxes! Especially considering that new games are always cheaper boxed than as digital downloads.

Yeah, I was pretty much against Steam when it first came out. Then again, I was still on dialup at the time, and Steam really wasn't much more than a very buggy platform for Counter-Strike at the time.
When CSS and HL2 came out, Valve had to work overtime to make Steam worth a shit. I remember it was a huge fucking joke in December 2004.
Nowadays I can't imagine going without it.

I have hundreds of PC game CD's/DVD's and they fit in 2 shoeboxes. Not really a huge amount of space, unless you absolutely need to keep the boxes.

Looks pretty amazing! Too bad its Ubisoft. I refuse to support them until they discontinue they're terrible DRM. If this doesn't feature that then I will definitely play it.
