(How some FM authors might feel now and then)
It's pointless, our being cantankerous
We shudder when others are rancorous
We pale at the thought
And see more support
For that evil, despicable man: Karras

Except picking locks in T1/2 isn't super thiefy as it doesn't require any skill. You just hold a button and wait. In TDS at least you look for right "tumbler position" (even that gets repetitive after a while), and in TDM you look for proper sound timing to release a button. So, a few seconds of waiting are okay. 15 seconds (+ switching picks) for every lock in the mission is not getting what good pacing is about.
I agree completely that lockpicking shouldn’t be overdone, I was just making a case for the theoretical locked safe in a room without NPC’s.

Also, I actually love jumping puzzles. BRING ON THE MARIO BROS. I want a mod that lets Garrett wall-jump. And why do we never enter mansions through green pipes?! MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Thief does have a more advanced system for lockpicking (but of course no one uses it).
Quote:
But little-used in DromEd 2 is a different kind of lockpicking, the Advanced Pick System. Advanced lockpicking is expanded from just three stages to eight. And the result of picking a stage can be progress forward or backward. Stages are also defined by time in milliseconds, instead of the confusing “pins” and “time percentage”.
Using advanced lockpicking can be very complicated. The path from locked (stage 0) to unlocked (stage 8) can go backward, forward, loop back on itself, and even reach a dead-end. Before typing values in the editor, you may find it useful to draw a diagram showing how each stage connects to the other stages.

I'm...so glad no one uses that.

I don't understand that description. Has anybody made a demo of how that works?

Actually, didn’t the FM King’s Story have a lock like this at the end of its first mission?

In addition to King's Story, I believe that Finals at the Academy, Through No Vault of My Own, and Bad Hangover (off the top of my head) made use of the advanced lockpicking system for a select few locks.

TNVOMO definitely used it, I believe it introduced a third lockpick if memory serves.
I'm really loving all the limericks! (and the lone haiku)
