I hope they at least made it so you can use the voices yourself if you have HL.

Yeah, because that's the most important thing.

everybody should have know from the first screenshots getting out that this will take a long time if they wanna keep this quality through the course of a 10h game :)

Did that have a generic guitar soundtrack as well? I know that the actual game did (by some random guy whom used to be in NiN. I'm pretty sure Trent Reznor worked D3 himself at some stage, I wonder why they ditched his work?).
Oh, I wasn't referring to the song used, but to how they edited the trailer to make the mod look super intense and fast-paced. Even the finale with Garguantua screaming is somewhat reminiscent of the Hellknight about to take a bite on the camera.

God, fuck EA for not letting us recreate SS2 on a new engine. This does indeed look like massive-balls out awesome and I'm going to go fucking batshit on this asap. It would have been extra awesome if they could have gotten it out for the 10th anniversary though I guess in the same year is about as good.
gnnnnnggnnngngnnnWell it can be done in the Doom 3 engine. I remember a mod called Sapphire Scar or something which had working inventory assets, but the mod never saw the light of day
But anyway back on topic, I'm really impressed by the quality of this. It feels like HL, but they really turned the graphics up by 10 notches

I'm kinda surprised that Valve wasn't working on a modernization of Half-Life, I would think that it would be the perfect showcase for the Source engine. If the trailer is anything to judge it by, the Black Mesa mod is right up there with a professionally produced game. If they can pull this off, major props to the Black Mesa mod guys.

I think Valve intended for HL: Source to be the update. Which basically amounted to what felt like Newell saying "Jim, Charlie. You two port the HL1 levels and scripts to Source. Tell me how tricky it is, it doesn't have to be fancy." And so then Jim and Charlie do it and Gabe is like "Okay, we'll release this with the real game" and then threw them off a bridge so they could never tell.

Valve said early on that they thought the community would create a Half-Life remake. And why should they do it themselves? Half-Life 2 was the Source showcase. And how many companies spend x hundred manhours on doing remakes of their earlier hits?

My understanding was that they were going to do it but found EA had the rights and were not able to secure permission to use the assets for a remake (which would be illegal without permission). That was what I meant by fuck EA.
