i like the idea of artemus playing surrogate father. it's probably why nobody else can talk to garrett or even convince him to help out or at least listen- artemus raised and trained garrett, who was probably maybe 10 when he joined the keepers. i'm sure it was a rather cold, professional relationship, the kind the keepers tend to have, but it was enough that garrett has SOME kind of attachment to the old man.
back on topic... yeah, garrett seems like the no-kill type. for one, murder would bring the watch down on his ass faster than mere thievery. for two, it's a lot harder to clean up a bloody mess than it is to just clock someone upside the head and stuff them in a closet. for three, garrett seems the type who'd only murder if the person deserved to die and there were no other way to bring them down (blackmail or siccing the watch on them, etc.), like say a child molester, human trafficker, et cetera, you know, the really awful people. and lastly, yeah it's also a pride thing. for my part, i try to ghost as much as possible, which means i'll go out of my way to avoid knocking someone out- and when i do, i either stick 'em somewhere very out of the way, or i make it look like they're sleeping/drunk/etc. so i'll toss 'em in bed, or stick a few cheap wine bottles around them, etc.
