There is that little Fast Forward icon next to him, which means "Continue on sight". Tell him to "Engage on sight" right from the beginning.

The symbol your shotgun dude has, the >>, means he's set to "continue on sight" and you forgot to switch him back to "engage on sight".

I need to get back into this game. I think all the embarrassing matches that caused me to stop playing for a while have expired or been lost in a server transition or something... that and, since it's exam week, I finally have enough time to play, lol!
Been working through more of the single-player campaign, which is good and bad. The AI tends to be either punishingly driven or blindly stupid, so it's a bit of a mixed bag, and makes it really difficult to plan properly. I find myself playing lots of missions twice - the first time I'm surprised by the AI's flawless coordination, and the next time I wipe them out because they do exactly the same thing again :p.
Anyway. More challenges heading your way... prepare for some easy wins.
