I don't remember this being advertised but did you know that we can now do full-blown color maps (page000, page001, etc) for the game? Same with the main_1 startup pic. No more screwing around with palettes and scruffy-looking maps.
I just dropped some png graphics in and they work like a charm! YES!!!

Indeed, it's very nice!

How does this affect automaps? Normally, you have to specify palette color 0 to be transparent. How's that work using pngs? Does it have to be indexed? Or do you actually use an alpha channel?

I just loaded up page000.tga in my mission and it worked perfectly. So, automaps with an alpha channel should be easy to implement. One of the experts on this forum would know for sure, however.

I want to use automaps sometime, but not sure how i shall do if i have some wedge and circle rooms. The automap is connected with the room brushes, right?
It would have been nice with maps, but i'm not sure if i am the right guy to test it if i never worked with it before :erm:

Last night I had a dream that I was in a Thief mission, and I pulled up the map... the map was a cotton candy 3d version of a map and I could fluidly pan around and zoom in. I could see all of the terrain and objects including objects I had placed during the game. I wish this was possible.

NewDark's already had a couple of updates so you never know what'll be in the next version.

I hate to go OT, but I'd sure like to see the merging or importation of gamesys's.
