And why is everyone achievement whoring like hell?
Because Valve are pricks and made it so that new weapons added in class updates have to be unlocked. Hence achievement farming.

TF2 was much more fun when it launched :(

They're not unlocked via achievements now.

Making achievements worthless.
In spite of intermittent internet drops that occur only when trying to play TF2 I've been having a lot of fun with TF2 lately. The Cloak and Dagger's made all the difference in the world, really, when it comes to playing spy, and you don't really see that many swarms of spy or sniper since you don't have to be playing a class to pick up its unlocks (and that's all most people really want.) Sawmill is like cartoon Stalker and Nucleus gives a strong HL1/TFC feel that I really like.
I don't know where you got "achievement whoring" from, stormbringer- most of the people getting achievements out of nowhere usually just bought the game and some of them are possible to get just by playing normally.

i bought the orange box shortly after completing gifted copies of hl2+ep.1, specifically for ep.2 & portal.
i dl'ed tf2 a good while later out of curiosity & boredom. i was pleasantly surprised to find a hugely fun, pick up & play game that wasn't the same old tired vs dm shit - i mostly loathe mp modes for that very reason.
i could happily squirrel away into support classes or base rush as a scout on ctf maps & not care bout the race.
the grind nature of achievement unlocking badly unbalanced the game

against casual players, lessening the welcoming pick & play appeal that tf2 initially had.
p.s. post spill over is because of the psp's text entry character limit. unavoidable, sorry.

As we speak, I am firing up Steam for the first time in ages.
Let the updates destoy the internetz.

Aside from bragging rights, that tends to be all they usually are for anyway.

Whenever the Pyro update came out TF2 went from a 20-30 hour a week addiction to not having played it in about a year now. I really dunno why they felt like they had to tinker with the original game mechanics, which were nearly perfect out of the box.
