How many of you have a big collection of Game boxes?
Mine is getting out of hand and I'm finding that I'm not really treating it as a collection. I'm thinking of getting rid of them all and storing all of my disc games in DVD cases. Less room to take up, more robust storage. What do you think?
I think it would be a travesty to recycle all those boxes, but I can't really think of a better way to do it. I might scan the front faces of them and re-print on some semi glossy paper for the DVD case inserts, and of course save all the manuals and important stuff (like CD keys). But I'm just kind of sick of lugging all the boxes around and trying to find a decent way of displaying them (only for myself because nobody else cares).
Once I get them set up somewhere I always end up screwing it up and pulling a box here and there, not putting it back etc.
Losing game disks in spools etc.
I have a ton of older game boxes from the 90s that I flattened and put in a rubbermaid tub when I moved from Calgary to Toronto. That was in 2003 and they're still in the tub. Even though I'm back in Alberta and own my own home.
What do you guys think? Anybody out there looking for some boxes? Maybe I"ll post up a list and you can let me know if you're pining for that one game box you destroyed and would like another copy?
Feedback, anybody else thought of doing this? I just can't manage it anymore, and my digital copy games surpassed my physical copy games awhile ago.

I made a rule to stop after it started filling up a bit too much space. But still got:
Chasm
Crusader No Regret
Deus Ex
Diablo
Diablo 2
Half-Life: Blueshift
Heavy Gear 2
Heroes of Might and Magic 3
Hexen 2
Might and Magic 7
Might and Magic 8
Red Alert
Sim City 2000
Space Hulk
Starcraft
Starcraft: Broodwar
Terra Nova
The Settlers 2
Ultima 9
Warcraft 2
Wingcommander 3
Wingcommander 4
Wingcommander Prophesy
To name a few. Really need to get rid of them on eBay at some point. SNES game sales have made me a nice little bundle (as a side business I've been doing for about 2 years now) as it is. Though PC games don't seem to sell as well. Likely due to GoG.

Just kidding. Toss em! ;)

Most of them are pretty uninteresting.
Painkiller
Doom 3
Quake 4
Pariah
Unreal 2
Fear
etc etc etc.
Some of the 90s style full sized boxes would be
Tomb Raider 1 & 2
Nocturne
... hell ic an't even remember.
I don't have anything interesting like Thief or System Shock. Although there are a few that I'll keep like the Fallout 3 lunchbox and the Bioshock big daddy. But the rest is just... taking up space.

Yeah, I only have a few of my favourites still:
Ultima Underworld
Ultima Underworld 2
Descent
Lucasarts Classic Adventures
Baldur's Gate 2 Collector's Edition
Fallout 2
Ultima 9 Dragon edition
Crusader No Regret
Ys: Oath in Felghana (Import)
And a few assorted console game boxes, like the PSP Ys games.
When I moved from my old place to my current condo, I had to downsize my box collection. There's only so much point in keeping a pile of boxes in a bookcase or in the top of a closet. Otherwise, it just takes up room.
Especially when they are often SO EMPTY. I recently ordered a 'new in box' game on eBay, and it was basically just a jewel case and a single slip of paper inside a full-sized 90s box.

I never kept any game boxes myself. Yes some of them looked cool but I always knew they were just going to take up too much space.
These days I don't even use cases to store my PC games: I think I may have mentioned it in the past but now I use a Discgear:

Mine is the round design but it holds 100 discs and works more like the square one in that video, and takes up a shelf space of around 38cm wide - perfect solution for cramming a lot into a little! You can also get little binders to store the covers/smaller manuals in, though they changed the design of those from ones that slot into a hard plastic case (which I have) to ones that are just held together by an elastic fastener, and honestly the newer style just isn't as good.
I did actually keep one game box which is relatively plain (IIRC it came from Carmageddon 2) that I now use to store the larger manuals that won't fit in the binder.
Depending on how many discs you've got, that might be a possible way to go if you were really going to downsize.

I'm really unsentimental towards game boxes. One day I've noticed that they just sit there, gathering dust. I never open them. I hardly ever use the discs because everything important is on Steam. So I took the "sleeves" and discs/manuals, put them in the drawer and the carboard boxes themselves are to be thrown away.

I started tossing my boxes around 04 when I needed the space. Tossed most of the actual discs last summer for things I have digital copies of. Holding onto the manuals though. Also picking up sealed copies of favorite games just to have for display/collection purposes. In 2012 I had a dresser drawer that looked like this and weighed about 80lbs:
