I've done a couple of culls over the years, but I still have quite a few boxes. Some that I once thought I'd keep have later been chucked. In some cases where the outer shell was just thin card, I just removed the firm inner support, and collapsed it down. Some I still can't imagine ever throwing out (e.g. anything from Looking Glass). They're all in the attic now, though, so I don't really pay them any attention now. I might cull some more if I went through them again.
All of the <em>manuals</em> from those boxes live in a separate BOX OF AWESOME (because modern game manuals are complete rubbish). That's not in the attic. I rarely ever open it, but it's a nice reminder of the good old days if I do :)

I managed to get my physical games pile down to just 9 DVD cases. One of which is my Stalker metal box, which I'm never getting rid of. The others are just games I don't have as digital versions.

Mine's about half that size Driver. I never knew a single soul who owned the ST: Borg Interactive movie other than myself. I've still never completed it. I have the Klingon one as well.
There are a few game I have bought digital copies of that I already owned, but I didn't make a habit of it. So most of my discs I can't just get rid of completely. But downsizing to 9 cases seems pretty attractive to me.

There used to be a vague system to it, RPGs top shelf, FPS 2nd etc, but then it just turned into 'wherever there's room'. And that doesn't even include the collector's editions I have. Sod new shelves, I need a bigger house.

That's awesome, driver :) I don't remotely have the space for that kind of thing, but it makes me really happy to see a collection like that on display.

Growing up I used to cut the front and back off PC game boxes and collected them in a binder. It would have been nice to have kept them, but space would've been an issue. The binder's since been lost. I think the last box I added to the gallery was probably WoW around '04.
That said I've gone back to physical copies and haven't bought anything digitally in about 4 years or so.
