Games that clicked for you, but not anybody else. - by Volitions Advocate

I coudln't think of anything for the other thread but I kept thinking of things in this category. (I woke up five minutes ago so my brain isn't fully operational yet)
One big one I can think of right now is
Pariah.
Awful story telling. but the action and minimalist weapon upgrade system had me sold. And the game tanked.
I'll make a proper post after work, but at least this can get the cogs rolling.

Copy and paste of one my posts from an old thread.
Alone in the Dark (2008) - The gameplay mechanics are innovative and always interesting. The art direction is great. The score by Olivier Deriviere and The Voices of Bulgaria is absolutely marvelous. The game has some really exciting, well directed set-pieces.
The title's flaws are certainly bearable and never game breaking; a lot of them are the age old Survival Horror annoyances like crappy digital movement and camera issues. The cheap padding device where you had to burn the X number of tree roots sucked hard though.
It's a real shame that we'll likely never see a PC or 360 patch with the PS3 version's improvements.

Far Cry 2?

I presume we get the same list of titles like in the other thread.

Thief 3/DX:IW. I don't worship them, but I was much more able to overlook their shortcomings than other people who also liked the games that preceded them. Same with Bioshock.
Scrapland. I still view this as the Hitman equivalent of Beyond Good and Evil.
Contract JACK. I expected a totally mindless shooter with 60's style and a cheeky sense of humor and that's exactly what I got. It's nowhere near the same class as the proper NOLF games, but I enjoyed the game (for the short time it lasted).
Doom 3. Mindless shooter with haunted-house-style cheesy-as-fuck scripted horror elements. Takes me back to high school and having slumber parties to watch total shit horror movies like The Gate and Critters. Makes me wish someone would take this style and just go over-the-top Serious Sam with it, as it would be the Dead Alive (or whatever the real title is) of FPS games.

Another Deus ex IW here. I enjoyed every minute of it.

Me too:D.
In fact now that I've played some of the original DX, I can definately say that DX2 was more interesting and fun for me.
DX is ok(not terrible) but it has some gameplay issues that make the game a little frustrating like ammo running out too quickly with pickups being quite rare. Even on easy I find myself running out of ammo and be forced to sneak the rest of it, this shouldn't happen.
But back on topic I also loved the controversial Thief: Deadly Shadows which people hated so and Assassin's Creed which also got a lot of hate.

Strangely enough, I found that DX had plentiful ammo whilst I was always forced to conserve my supplies in DXIW.

I'm going to merely brush off anyone's comments of "WTF? You're insane, man! INSANE, I TELL YOU!!!" and say Daikatana.
Ah the game that promised so much and had a lot of hype, but ultimately failed to live up to expectations. But seriously: am I the only one who actually enjoyed the game? The premise and themes certainly interested me, with the time travel, and different weapons and enemies for each era. Yes I will grant you that it did feel like I was babysitting the sidekicks from time to time, which isn't what should be happening (Mikiko only walked herself straight off a cliff edge into a sea of lava once! :p ), but once you learned to ignore them - which I did most of the time - I found you were then free to start appreciating the game more. Also, I personally thought the music was pretty damn good in places too. :thumb:
I'll also join you couple of others and go for DX: IW as well. No it never quite matched up to its daddy, but as a game in its own right I thought it did a pretty good job. To be honest I can't remember much about it now - only played it once, but that's only because of a graphics card issue I had at the time that stopped me being able to run it. One day soon I'm really going to have to give it another whirl.
