What games have you played that lots of others loved - but you just sat there thinking, "What is it about this game? It doesn't do a thing for me..." (It's not so much about saying, "People loved this game, but they're idiots, because I know that it actually sucks krogan balls...") These are the games that you end up completing on god mode, if that, because playing them regularly feels like such a chore.
Two games that I completely failed to connect with:
- Doom 3. I liked the atmosphere at the beginning, and it had ideas here and there that I appreciated, but on the whole it bored me, in ways that the original Doom games didn't when they came out.
- Far Cry. Nice (relatively) open-world gameplay, but the B-movie aesthetics and feel of the game, as well as the mutants, completely put me off.

* Far Cry
* Max Payne

I simply cannot play sports games of any kind.
Fighters:- I can have some fun with a button mashy fighter like Soul Calibur, but that's about it.
Simulation racers:- 100% unfun and boring as fuck.
RTSes:- I rarely touch these, but when I do it's for almost always for SP campaigns. Since my play style is that of a Turtle, I can't have any fun with MP in most games.
I adore Relic's games though, especially Homeworld.
Genres that I adored as kid, but can't really see myself playing them now:-
Space flight sims, MechWarrior, Civilization, Sim games. I would spend hours playing these at a time, but really can't be bothered with them these days.
Space flight sims, I would need to buy find a joystick that worked fine with legacy W95/W98 titles + DOSbox, I really haven't bothered to research it. I bought Freelancer + Starlancer recently though, I understand that the former was designed for mouse.
I just never got around to buy Mech 3 or Mech 4. I was big fan of Mech 2 + Mercs though. AFAIK they don't work at in XP or Vista so I never bothered trying.
I adored SimCity 2000, but the added depth/complexity in 3000 didn't click with me so I stopped playing it.
I only ever played Civ1, never touched the sequels.

Max Payne
True, that's another one for me. I loved the sequel, but the first game put me off. Might have been Max' constipated facial expression. :p

Call of Duty 4.
Seriously, what the fuck?
In fact, any CoD game. I keep trying them just to see if they've changed and are really as innovative as people claim them to be, but I always end up disappointed and slightly confused that they sell so incredibly well.
Heavily scripted piles of tosh, each and every one.
Infinity Ward haven't done anything new since Medal of Honour: Allied Assault.

Some indie freeware games, names of which I forgot a long time ago...

Half Life 2. It's pretty fun in places but I was far from blown away, and it has some genuinely boring and annoying bits. The atmosphere didn't really click most of the time. And I hate the gravity gun. I actually groaned when you have to play through a whole section with only that thing.
Bioshock. Enough bits have been spilled on its account already.
World of Goo. I think it's a quality game and worth the general respect it gets, but I like other physics sorts of games better. Don't know why.
Deus Ex. There's too many ugly, stupid things in the game for me to ignore and just enjoy the options and its dynamism. I'm not sure that's on topic.
GTA: Vice City Played it quite a bit but didn't enjoy it nearly as much as 3, despite it doing all the things I thought 3 needed (bikes, property, better characterisation). The design is quite off putting. Pseudo Miami is boring, small and featureless. I hate every major eighties aesthetic (especially the pop music) and there's far too much affection in their affectionate parody.
There's surely more. I'll have to think.
Oh yeah, you can chuck in both Max Payne's. I pretty harsh about what I think they did wrong and their dodgy Noir pastiche, but I played through them both (though they weren't mine) and I certainly wasn't annoyed by the experience, just 'meh'.

Same here. I don't get this CoD thing.
