I will agree with you on Metroid 1. It's pretty much aggressively inaccessible. Even Metroid 2 is more playable.
I just wish Zero Mission had less blatant handholding.

Oh and FUCK
Hexen 1, that was the epitome of "you're now lost within this labyrinth of a level FOREVER!"
I
loved Hexen, even though I got stuck a couple of times. I never got lost but sometimes the puzzles stumped me.
What I really didn't like was Heretic. While Hexen was plenty atmospheric and creepy, Heretic seemed lifeless, bland and dull to me, uninteresting levels with uninteresting enemies. I did finish it all the way to the end, but was glad when it was over.
I also think Soldier of Fortune is a pile of trash. One of the most boring games I ever played, I don't know why I even bothered finishing it. Also my #1 pick for worst game music score ever.
Fallout, I'm sure it's a good game but these games just aren't for me.
The Dig, just didn't captivate me the way the other LucasArts adventure games did. I never finished it.

Yeah, another one for liking hexen but not heretic. Heretic was essentially Doom with new textures, but not as fun. All the weapons were almost identical to their Doom counterparts, except the shotgun/crossbow isn't hitscan and I think the BFG was different in heretic. Hexen 2 was a lot worse for esoteric puzzles than Hexen, which is probably why I never completed it. Heretic 2 on the other hand, was good until I hit the bug which stops you from loading save games. (Anyone know a fix for that, incidentally?)

I loved the Dig most of the way through, but in just a few minutes the end managed to puke up all over the game that I had enjoyed for hours.

I liked Heretic. Now, granted, episodes 4 and 5 were a bit too much (4 especially) but the 2nd one is a lot of fun.
Hexen 1 is bullshit. Good Lord. The worst part is that at higher difficulties there are more enemies for you to melee your way through. That gets old very, very quickly.

Hexen is more about the puzzles than about the combat. If you didn't like the puzzles, it's easy to see why you thought the game was crap. The combat is pretty generic, only 4 different weapons per class and only a few different types of enemies.

My first playthrough of Hexen when it came out totally blew my mind. I never enjoyed first person shooters much before that game (unless you count Descent), and having to mess around with puzzles and stuff really made a difference. It was great fun playing it co-op over a modem, too.

What the fuck? Hexen's puzzles was a bunch of elaborately obtuse keyhunt bullshit. Fuck Hexen's puzzles.
Hexen is an okay game with some interesting ideas but honestly it's just a first person Diablo.

Any sports game... yuck.
RTS in general.
Any Final Fantasy past IX.
Sim... Anything.
Fallout - Just couldn't get into the first one, never tried 2, liked 3 OK.
Baldur's Gate/NWN - Couldn't get into the 1st one, never tried any others.
Hexen/Hexen 2 - I never finished these. I recently tried 2 again, but it only made me remember why it went into the Dead pile to begin with, ie...

This.
Doom 3 - what a contrived, predictable piece of garbage that was. I loved the first 2.
Serious Sam - cute, but tiring once the cute wears off.
Far Cry/Far Cry 2 - Yawn.
Bioshock - I like the story and (most of) the locations, but the game failed to make me interested in one of its most vaunted features: the plasmid system. I made it through using passive ones gained via research, etc. almost exclusively. Launching swarms of bugs from my hand looks neat I suppose, but bum rushing/ambushing with a perked-up wrench is much more expedient. The Big Daddy fights are a contrivance, and can also be mostly skipped if you choose.

I just remembered another one.
Zelda - Windwaker
First of all cel-shaded for Zelda looks crap(except on the DS). I did try it on a friend's Wii with the Gamecube controller and absolutely hated it. The visuals didn't appeal to me and just the whole game felt too kiddy(more so than usual) It's like "My First Zelda". Anywho didn't feel like a Zelda game to me.
