Games that you've been wanting to replay (but haven't found the time yet) - by Thirith

Except we can't have a normal thread with calm, rational discussion. So unless you like your content to consist mostly of OMG FUK U FAGOT then you're barking up the wrong tree.
So your solution to keeping the discussions clean is to strip them of actual discussion? Yeah, that'll work.
I'm all for keeping things friendly, but I'd like to see things to be to the point. Or to have a point at least.
There are plenty of interesting topics a serious discussion on games can be about that have not been touched on. Various game mechanics and features, the compromises between them. Comparing similar titles. New game concepts.
All topics at some point will involve personal preferences, and sure some will generate 'OMG FUK U FAGOT'-vibed responses. But those do not make the topics less interesting. All they really do is expose the poster for what he/she is. Annoying but that's all it is.

In the line of 'You don't have to read it' thinking, we might as well allow spammers.

Bullshit. There's a difference between a thread asking a question that some might be interested in and spam. For the record, I only started one of the list threads lately, and I'm not all that interested in most of the others. The question I've asked here is a different one - perhaps not different enough for many people here, but I have to say I find it silly and a touch hypocritical to basically say, "You posted a question that I'm not interested in, but you didn't post x questions that I am interested in, therefore your post is pure spam." You're interested in these other questions? Post them.

Like I mentioned before, I don't mind the occasional list thread, I actually enjoy it, but the recent surge is a bit much. Most 'games that' threads do pose some sort of interesting question, but end up in people just listing games. Without really getting anywhere.
But the question you posed in this thread is completely dependent on personal situation, and has very little to do with qualities of the games that will be mentioned.
Basically you ask 'Name some games you've played and liked enough to be considered to be replayed, but.. ' and here's the crux of it ' ..you're not allowed to mention games you actually replayed'.
You might as well ask 'Name some games you've played and liked enough to be considered to be replayed, but they're not allowed to have an A in the title'. Equally arbitrary.

And I'm not calling your post spam. Spam is way more annoying. But in the way that spam is annoying. So is your thread topic, it's empty by design.
At the heart of it there might be some interesting questions, "What makes you want to replay a game?" (for me that's mostly 'revisiting the atmosphere' and 'enjoying the challenge', story funnily enough hardly matters), but that's not how the topic is presented.
-
And you're right that in order to have better topics I -or we- shouldn't hesitate to start them. Guilty as charged.
But that does not take anything away from validity of the responses in this thread.

That's definitely true. Perhaps I assumed too much that people who have the time would actually *discuss*, while others would post titles. As I've mentioned, I'd already find the latter quite interesting, at least on a Monday morning while I'm supposed to do lots of work.

Content, in a list thread? Relevent blog post:

The author tends to moon on in his posts, but he's right about one thing regarding me:
Quote:
Maybe your habits are different, but many gamers I know tend to be hoarders. We derive a certain satisfaction from our collections, knowing we can play any game at any time we choose. We're archivists, of sorts, and we've spent years building our libraries. But for most us, the idea of playing those games is more compelling than actually playing them. I'm proud to have Lunar Knights in my collection, but I have no interest in playing it again. Maybe, someday...
But yeah, enough with the list threads. Let's get past all this.
