Well, that's a pretty self-centered thing to say. It only makes sense if you arbitrarily give a higher value to your feelings then the feelings of other people.
Just to be clear, I wasn't implying anything by my statement - I just wanted to make sure I was understanding your point correctly. I know it would be self-centred to arbitrarily decide that
we as a community, or
we as the gaming press (I'm not one, but pretend I am) are better judges of 'good' than everybody else.
[Here I was going to start a long ramble about whether a minority can decide what is good for the majority, primary education, and Freud, but it probably wouldn't serve any purpose. (And I was kidding about Freud.)]

Except stats show that the average age of gamers is much much higher, and the range tells us that 12yr olds are an insignificant minority.
Does it matter if we're talking about 12yr olds or 40yr olds? The point is that to make the most amount of money off your game, you try to (or are forced to) tailor it to that audience, and I'm going to guess that for many developers, this means sacrificing some of the game's original artistry. Assuming it had some.

the 12 year olds I know are a bunch of morons that only know how to use gamecopyworld.com and the latest cheat codes. If they finish a game and you ask them about content, story and how they thought it played compared to XYZ the start staring at me like I am from another planet only babbling about scores and (!!!!) achievements.
What is old is new again. Sure, you've got all these great cinematic games with millions blown on graphics and spiffy presentation nowadays. But in the end, after all is said and done, all anyone really cares about is getting the high score in Galaga.
Fuck yeah. I rock on Galaga. I RAWK AWN! \m/:mad:
