Yeah, well..I'm not saying I compared the AC games to Thief directly, but subconsciously I guess I always had in my mind the freedom of Thief gameplay (also: in Thief some of the most fun bits are the players screwups which are mostly gone in a hand-holding game like this). So it was kinda sad to me what the core gameplay in AC ended up being. And with hindsight you try to analyze just what your issue with it is. It's a blockbuster in production values but a fairly dull game imo.
Fair enough on Unreal 2, Muz. If memory serves I had just got a new graphics card when I played it, so I was probably giving it extra marks for prettiness (also bought it to mess around with the Editor which was fun).
Bioshock is not a bad shout too but yeah, hate is too strong a word. It starts so well but by the end I couldn't be arsed to finish it. Maybe my attention span is the problem.

If you weren't a fan of Brotherhood then don't ever play Revelations. AC2 and Brotherhood was the best the series got. After that it all went down hill.
Gotta agree with that one. I gave up on the first AC very quickly, but the second game was good enough that it made me overlook the crap in it (interface, save system, controls). I really liked it. Brotherhood wasn't too bad either, but it had some atrociously linear scripted missions in it. And then came Revelations, which I gave up halfway through. The tower defense minigame was the last straw. I'll never go back to this franchise, but I maintain that AC2 was a good game, and the best of the AC games among those I've seen.

In a ZB stylee - Shadow of the Beast.
I loved the idea of it, it looked great and sounded better. But it was SO hard and unforgiving.
