Everyone defending MGS sounds like a stoner in this thread.

So what you're saying is that the biggest strenght of the MGS is the it doesn't have any immersion?
It has plenty of immersion. The 4th-wall breaking feels like a natural part of the game- and in fact MGS is the only series I know of where this seems to work.

*all together now* All you need is drugs, drugs, drugs is all you need...
I think everybody can agree to disagree here. MGS has always been a divisive sod of a series, to paraphrase Eurogamer.
MGS2 has quite a few intriguing ideas, but they're occasionally hampered with bad execution. Like, as EvaUnit02 said, the bits that exchange subtlety for a sledgehammer. That's part of what makes its attempts at being high-brow fall a little flat.
Also, Kojima
really needs to learn the art of narrative focus. MGS2's plot comes across as wonderfully muddled, from what I can remember of it.

Just FYI, that doesn't sound very credible.

It would a much be shorter list if I were to name the games I don't hate, but even that would be a long list, as I've been playing computer games for 27 years, so there's not much I haven't played.
I think I'm simply getting too old to play games as more often than not, new games are worthless trash to me. I've also come to realize I no longer like any type of game. I used to play them all: shooters, rpg, rts, adventure, racing, you name it. Not these days. If it's not a shooter of some sort, or an rpg/adventure, I won't even bother.
I'll just name a few I can't stand, that the majority of the gaming community seemed to go apeshit over.
The Diablo series. This one is great if you want to wear out your left mouse button. Also, once your character reaches a certain level, the game basically plays itself. Just run into a hoard of monsters and watch them kill each other trying to get to you. I made the mistake of actually buying the Diablo Battlechest based entirely on community hype. Waste of money.
Bioshock. Overhyped crap. This game tried way too hard to be SS2 and still didn't pull it off. Sure the graphics are great, but I'm an old school gamer from the CGA/EGA graphics days. I don't need eye candy to enjoy a game, and too many games these days rely entirely on eye candy to sell. This one also felt a lot like Doom 3, with the sudden appearance of bad guys in dark areas. I didn't bother playing past the first 3 or 4 levels.
Baldur's Gate & Icewind Dale series. Ok, I don't hate these 2 series, I just don't care for them. I used to really love a good AD&D game, or any other decent RPG for that matter. I've still got most of the old ms-dos based ones from SSI. These 2 series just didn't hold my interest longer than an hour. I'm not entirely sure why, but it's just possible that I'm sick and tired of all the damned micromanagement that goes into playing a good RPG. I also made the mistake of buying the complete series of both these games based entirely on community hype.
Crysis & Warhead. FarCry wannabes and great graphics. Nothing else. On the surface, they are both decent shooters, if you can ignore the lame story and the crap AI, but it's obvious the devs put all their efforts into eye candy, which is useless if the other aspects of the game are crap.
Fear. It's a sad thing when a game's demo version is better than the retail version. Not a bad series at all, just way overhyped like many other titles these days. I played the demo and loved it, pretty scary stuff. Then I got the retail version and was very disappointed. All the scary good stuff was in the demo. Waste of my time.
I could go on and on like this, but this will do.

Nobody has said TES4:Oblivion.
Radiant AI my arse. Every dungeon the same. Every chest full of worthless crap no matter whose house it's in or how well defended.
Once I was sneaking in the forest and came across a wolf peacefully coexisting with a herd of deer. The wolf saw me and gave chase. Wolves do not behave this way. I fled down the road to Leyawin , at one point turning back I saw the wolf, a bandit and one of those big blue demons all united in unlikely alliance in their relentless terminator quest to destroy me. STALKER is so much better.
I loved it so much for the first few hours, then you realise just how very dumb it is.

Yes, it isn't perfect but I actully like Oblivion. I can't say that I hate any of the TES games. I think they just need a patch or two to fix some of the bugs.
