That's a crock of bullshit.
Oh common, it is full with immersion-breakers, good sound yeah, as always. But there is just too much meh to apreciate it.

I can't even hate Ultima 9. What's wrong with me?
Sulphur on 23/9/2008 at 18:20
You've been fatally infected with nostalgia.
I recommend a quick run of Daikatana to remedy that. For a while, at least. :cheeky:

Either I find some redeeming feature in the games I play or I stop playing them before I start hating them.
I guess it helps not to play online games too much, though.
(Mingan: I actually liked Ultima VIII, even though it's a crime against the series in many ways.)

Ultima VIII was a lot of fun, really. The world wasn't very fleshed out, but you got to do some really evil stuff for a change. Interesting magic systems, too.
Most people hate it because of the arcadey aspects and the fact that it wasn't set in Britannia, but I tend to think that after doing 7 iterations of Britannia before it (not counting Serpent Isle and the WoU spinoffs), the guys at Origin must have felt the urge to do something new.
I just realised - it's not my PC that's acting funny, it's just me. Must. get. more. sleep. Grahnnghzzzz.

Yes. Black & White, Black & White, mother fucking Black & White.

Star Wars Galactic Battle Grounds.
First time I see it, I just screamed when I saw the words "Star Wars" on it, and bought it almost immediately.
And then I started playing the game, still going "Wooo, STAR WARS!"
Until a couple days passed by, and I realized all I was doing was doing the same thing every mission.

Have you ever seen or heard of the Minimalist Mod? It makes the game 134987593x better. I won't play TDS without it, but with it TDS is a very good game. I mean it's not pick of the litter compared to the first two but in this day and age a game
at least as good as TDS is hard to come by.
Here's one I can't play anymore: Clive Barker's Undying. Fuck that game.

Black & White, thirded.
And to the great surprise of nobody, I'll throw out Silent Hill 2 again. Beautiful graphics, amazing sound, creepy monster design, tolerable controls, atmospheric as hell... but after a few hours of gameplay, it starts to sink in that there is no damn plot. There's a premise at the start, and an explanation at the end, but absolutely nothing in-between. If the gameplay itself was entertaining I wouldn't have minded so much. But it isn't, so fvck you, SH2.
Serious Sam: The Second Encounter I *almost* came to hate. It just got a little too crazy toward the end. I've never beaten the final level without god mode.

Fuck me, I'd managed to forget about Black & White. Likewise, I didn't hate it too much until the level where my creature, which I'd spent ages nurturing, teaching and growing, was reduced to puny oompa-loompa proportions and left me yelling at the screen as the gradual build up in frustration came to a head.
The dawning realisation I'd spent hours teaching "how to throw turds 101", whilst grappling with painful mouse gestures: and it was all in vain.
