So I'm stealing this question from the Clan of The Grey Wolf as I thought it was an interesting question to consider.
So I ask of you fellow TTLG'ers, What games do you think will still be played actively in 25 years time from now. And I'm specially meaning the original games themselves, not sequels that have yet to be released present day or after. By actively I'm meaning that a fair few people of varying age groups still play them. Not just all of us 25 years from now still playing System Shock for example.
For me I think quite strongly that people will be playing:
* Doom 1 & 2
* Pac Man
* Portal
* Tetris
* Sim City
* Solataire
* Space Invaders
This is under the expectation that people will still be using keyboards + mouses by that point in time, which I honestly don't see any reason why people would stop by then.
I look forward to reading your responses.

How will we play Portal when Steam is gone!!!!1111???

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. It's already 17 years old and people still play it competitively.

You're asking about everybody, but I can probably answer better just thinking about myself... Hmm, let me just go through my game list....
I bet I'll still have Thief & DarkMod on my harddrive to play FMs.
I'll still have Hardwar, and I bet there's a loyal group that sticks around for the online play.
Civilization 2 (or FreeCiv) & Alpha Centauri, GTA-SA, Steel Panthers & Operational Art of War III, IL-2, Freespace 2, Minecraft, Orbiter, Drod, Half-Life 2 & its mods, WoW in some form...
The kind of games you mention in the first post, I already think of them as emulator games now... The kind that will just be around forever packaged with the emulator. I bet in 25 years most systems before ~2000 will be like we think of StellaX now... People just download the emulator and *every* game ever made for that system in one download that takes 0.2 seconds and 0.000001% of your harddrive, and people will just skip around and play whatever. I mean, I play Atari games now pretty indiscriminately... basically the games I actually had as a kid the most. For all I know, it could be like that for games even made today, considering 25 years ago was 1985.

People will still be playing Counter-Strike 1.6 until the collapse of civilisation.

Chess :sly:
That, and some asinine future variation of Final Fantasy.
But I'm with EvaUnit02. CS1.6 will be the post-nuclear cockroach of videogames.

Damn, someone beet me. A decade ago I would have included TFC and Quakeworld on that list, but they're quite dead now. Q3A might still be played though, because there are still like 2,000 servers for it last I checked. There are also lots of UT99 servers too.
Its funny, when Q3 came out I remember people saying they weren't going to switch to it from Q2 and that Q2 was much better. Q3 is still much more popular though, in spite of Q2's excellent CTF.
