vurt has proven himself not exactly an expert on what he's talking about anyway. Half his argument against Max Payne seemed to do with the fact that it was made in Finland.

It's a proven fact that you can't argue against fanbois buuuut whatever, it can be kind of "fun" for a while. That argument that i don't like finland is kinda lame though, but what can you expect.
If you didn't play HL2 you can see some of its facial animations here:

compare it to Bloodlines here:

In HL2 the skin will follow the animations of e.g the eyebrows smoothly, while in Bloodlines Troika couldn't get it to work, it has 2 positions.. It's probably not because they have bad artistis, it's just that the early beta version of the engine wasnt that good.

I'm not a fanboy. I'm just not fucking retarded.
I do agree with you that the expressions weren't as good as in HL2 but it boils down to one thing:
Who gives a fuck?!
Bloodlines may be a flawed jewel but frankly that description fits a lot of the most memorable games.

unfortuntately you're wrong, but too retarded to see it.
And since people had to argue against me about the facial animations, some people DO care. If you don't care, then why don't you just shut the fuck up?

That entire post of yours basically translates to "you know who's great? Carlos Mencia. Also I'm pretty sure the moon landing was faked."

vurt: I'm glad someone agrees with me about the facial expressions in Bloodlines. I enjoyed the game, but the 'acting' in it was pretty bad - yet it was roundly lauded by people, which always confused me. Just because characters have facial expressions doesn't automatically make them good... and I thought they were pretty bad (mediocre high-school drama quality at best) in Bloodlines.
The characters still worked pretty well for me because the voice acting was memorable. But in terms of writing and of the characters in general I've always found Bloodlines rather overrated - I felt that many players and reviewers confused bust size for characterisation, and the haunted hotel, while effective in an immediate "Boo!" way, doesn't hold a candle to the Cradle. It falls apart if you think about it, especially with the "I'm writing this while the madman is clawing his way through the locked door!"-style diary entries.

I tend to give that a pass due to the fact that it would be fairly difficult to articulate that part another way.
Except having the ghosts acting it out. And for me that section was fucking scary enough without further spectral shenanigans. :(
Thirith on 27/12/2008 at 18:04
You know, I think it's *effective* - like a good haunted house at the funfair. It just doesn't hold up at all when you think about it, so much of the hyperbolical praise the game and that level got struck me as, well, hyperbolical. :p
