So did anyone else do a heap of actual gaming, in the temporary absence of our normal haunt for reading and writing about gaming? :)
Me, I played through FEAR and the Extraction Point expansion (the latter of which has good gameplay and great new weapons, but absolutely the most unsatisfying story and ending of any game I've played in a long time).
I then replayed a lot of it on the hardest difficulty setting, after concluding that my normal cautious approach had been Wrong for this game, and that in actual fact charging headlong into every combat encounter was not only fun to do, but usually the ideal tactic :)
A rather enjoyable shooter, all things considered. Just focus on the combat goodness, and let the flaws fade into the background...

I finally got around to playing Star Control 2 through Ur-Quan Masters. I had absolutely no idea where to find Syra on the galactic map, though.

I finished Torment. Not enough game in that to be anything but very good.

I didn't just take a break from TTLG, but from dromed as well.
Prey
Track Mania Nations (free racing game on steam)
No One Lives Forever 2

All of the Orange Box, except TF2 (it's simply jaw dropping how much Bioshock is like Half Life 2, minus driving and plus audio logs. I had forgotten)

Got the Genesis Gaming pack from the bargain bin at EB and played Phantasy Star II. I"m all the way to the green dam already.
Played Afraid of monsters and got one ending so far. (Remember when the ring came out? everybody said it was the absolute scariest movie ever made, I went to it and didn't think it was all that bad, and the only thing I jumped at was the centipede. Well AoM was definately one of the best scarefests, but I think maybe if i hadn't been hyped up so much, I might've actually thought it was scarier than I did this playthrough)
AND I went out to Wal-Mart and bought Mass Effect, A game I wasn't going to buy because of the mixed review until the price went down. But they had stocke it on their shelf where they used to have "the sims 2" and the price tag was $20 less than it should be. So when they rang it in i played dumb and got them to knock 20 bucks off the price.
And I've got to say I'm impressed with it so far. The combat is a little clunky but so was Deus Ex. But the RPG stuff in it is amazing. The dialogue sections are so well engineered. Its the only time I"ve ever `had` to talk to somebody to get info or whatever and Didn't feel like it was taking away from my experience. They give you the option to respond before the other person is finished speaking. and if you choose your response in time the conversation just keeps flowing like a real conversation. Might sound kind of dumb on here but.... really I think it has a great potential. I"m off to play it some more.

I've been playing Half-Life 1. I think there's some weird shit going on with my installation though, 'cuz twice now I've heard the AoM ghost noise (anybody who's walked down a certain hallway in the hospital knows the one) distantly. And if I reload it doesn't happen again.
I've heard birds tweeting, too.

Started Diablo 2, because of the 3 announcement of course. Oh my, it hasn't aged good... Thankfully I found something which makes it a bit more bearable visually: (

Played through Crusader No Remorse + Diablo 1 with hellfire expansion installed. Gotta say that Crusader still stands as an excellent game dispite the outdated gfx. Just takes a little while to adjust just as you do when playing any older game.

did they make one for Diablo 1? i forgot to mention I started playing that as well. also because of the diablo 3 trailer.
I never got farther in diablo 2 than the second act. I actually went down to the pawn shop and bought diablo 2 and the expansion fo rlike 10 bucks a few months ago with the intension of running a diablo marathon with a couple friends, but it never took off so i never finished 2.
