This past year I have been bad and neglected the loosely defined medium I profess to love so. I look around at all these gainfully employed people living full lives who have played every damn thing and I cannot deny it's possible. I will be better! I promise! Allow me to enumerate the ways.
1: I will play Far Cry 2 past the first mission. The guns are weak and the world is Brrrrrrownnnn but I will not just go back to Stalker at the first sign of it not being Stalker. I'm not actually that sad a Stalker tragic. It's got groovy evolving story shit to be had and I supposedly like that sort of thing.
2: I will actually finish The Void despite it being really easy to corner yourself and the game just vague enough that you don't know you're doing the right thing at any point. I know that's the idea and not just the flower petal poser porn stuff where you try to please languid manipulative girls and invariably get it wrong while their ugly brothers chase you around and beat you up. I've heard of art imitating life but this is ridiculous. At least here you can try again.
3: I will actually run Mass Effect before someone gives Mass Effect 3 game of the year. Which will be about four months before it comes out at this rate.
4: I will get Amnesia on principle (insert New Years drinking joke here) even though I'm too much of a massive girly wuss pants to actually play it. That or...
5: Get past the stupid dog in Penumbra and then not play Amnesia.
6: I should probably seek out one of those famous games where you rape the corpses of dead Russian civilians or something, just because.
7: Or one of those where you slaughter ethnic "zombies" while wearing your burning-cross patterned pyjamas.
8: I should at least attempt a strategy game of some sort, just to say I did.
9: Likewise attempting a retro 2d platformer of some sort mightn't be a bad idea. Like eating your greens or formal dancing I guess its something you're supposed to find unthreatening after a certain age.
10: Oh god, I haven't even played Minecraft yet have I.
11: finish Doom 3; play an FM!; write more stupid blog a bit faster; play something with Fallout in the title; refuse to play Bioshock 2 out of unearned spite; Hey I have Psychonauts installed, when did that happen?; The Sims can't really be that good can it?; I need a new game for 15 minute burts of pointless destruction (Red Faction: Guerrilla downloading); I still really don't want to play 2d adventure games any more. I wonder if there's something the matter with me; gamesgamesgamesgamesgamesgamesgamesgames
12: Don't ask me to get a console for any of this crap. I don't care if most of the games on every mainstream site I visit list stuff I've never even heard of as the best things ever. Stuff made by Steven Spielberg for crying out loud. I think Halo is just some way Trent Reznor labels his releases and that's how it's going to stay. It doesn't matter if it'll help me understand a greater percentage of Yahtzee's jokes, I'm not doing it. No, I'm not getting a iPhone either. Screw you you burbling ever congealing and disbursing morass of quantum shit, I'm taking up smoking.

I'm going to try to be a better gamer by actually playing the less graphically-intense games on my freakishly long list. :P Several of the titles are old adventure games or FPSes that should run with no problems.

Most of my gaming goals are about making them. It'd be cool to work out some innovative gameplay, like an LSD-style game with the a plot spread out in time and space and linked together through mad hallucinations. Or push the development of IF-FPSs with some actual interaction and gameplay. Any goals as far as actual playing are to stay in touch with the state of the art. I'm content for now to plod through my long backlog anyway.

Anyway, this year I will stop reading those horrid Black Mesa forums, I will get back to Minecraft and I will replay all homeworld games.
Also, same as Muzman's 2. and 3. is more like "I will stop making fun of people playing Mass Effect until I have played it", probably meaning that I won't make fun of people playing Mass Effect ever again.
And I will try to start that dark mod FM that I've all written, planned and thought but don't have the courage to build in radiant.
