I have a (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logitech_G5) Logitech G5 laser-tracking mouse, dating back to when I used to play nothing but insta-gib Unreal Tournament and needed all the help I can get. I don't think it helped TBH, but it's a lovely mouse to use.

I just have a cheap Labtec wireless optical mouse.
Inline Image:

I idly wonder if a better mouse would allow me to actually hit people in TF2?

here it is: Saitek Cyborg R.A.T. 7:
That looks disturbingly like a small killbot from the Deus Ex universe.

Logitech, 2 buttons, scroll-wheel (which serves as another button), laser, wired.
There doesn't really need to be anything else.

Microsoft Optical Comfort Mouse 3000.
It's blue. And the index finger button has all the paint rubbed off.

It won't. I've tried.

Three buttons, scrolling wheel, wired, ball.
Non-gimmicky.
So in the world you live in, not having to routinely take out a ball, give it a spit-shine, and collect cat fur from the rollers is apparently a gimmick.

Cleaning out the ball once per month won't kill me. And cat fur, ha ha ha.
I throw my mouse around a lot(that is, physically pick it up and put somewhere else or even in the same place but at a different angle) which doesn't work all that well with optical mouses.

I used to use a Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 optical mouse. I got a Razer Deathadder in 2007 and have loved it. It's like a direct evolution of the MSIE3.0. I'm high sens for gaming and low sens for desktop use; even with the latter I can quickly move the cursor from one side of the screen to the other horizontally with just ~1" wrist movement.
Deathadder uses an awesome Optical sensor too, not some god awful Laser one like a lot of gaming mice have. Running on an engine technology that's known for its inaccuracy and only working on limited surfaces, like is the case with laser? No thanks. MX518 is still the best mouse that Logitech ever made because of this very reason.
