Sadly there is generally an inverse relationship between the income available for buying games, and the time available for gaming (on top of the fact that you are in theory dividing that reduced time between an ever-increasing number of games)
If your primary console is platform, you can get around that by renting. I used to keep an account open with the local Blockbuster back when I actually cared about playing all the good, new games.
Personally, though, my own "backlog" is getting pretty huge because I simply don't play video games that much anymore: I've found another kind of "game" that is much more fun and much more rewarding.
That said, I do have a few games that I'd like to get around to over the holidays or the next time I get snowed in. Vanquish should be a good, fun, quick action game. Same for Ninja Storm 2 and Odyssey to the West. I WANT to play Vegas, but i'm a bit too scared of getting sucked into a long RPG for that to happen.
Above all, what I need is to finish Red Dead Redemption.

More or less what addlink said is my reason for the season
Renting was good when I couldn't afford the games, but since I buy so very little console games, only the ones will be keepers on the long run, I don't bother with rentals.
Still, I am definitively going to control the EAS so if I buy games at least they'll be cheaper, and I sure as Heck got a -lot- of incentive for that :)

*ignoring your overly aggressive tone*Erm... to play them?
You can do that extremely easily for free. In fact in most cases it's faster and easier than buying them.
So again, why do you pay for games?
addink on 14/11/2010 at 18:03
Because I don't steal. Unlike -I can only assume- you.

Ah, so it's just Lawful Stupid.
addink on 14/11/2010 at 18:06
Lawful? yes.
Stupid? No, that would be you.

If everyone was as smart as you, how many new games do you think would be created? The only reason you even get to play new games is because of people like addink who are 'Lawful Stupid' as you say.
Koki on 14/11/2010 at 18:43
Hahaha, no.
It might surprise you, but the difference between people "stealing" games and addink buying them from bargain bins is next to zero as far as the publisher(and thus by extention, the developer) is concerned. When people "steal" a game, they get a product and don't give the publisher money; when addink buys a re-release, exactly same thing happens. The money goes to some third party which had nothing to do whatseover with either paying for or making the game.
What Enchantermon and MrDuck are doing is also pointless because in the capitalism purchase is your vote, and they buy literally everything they see. They make the market bigger, but not better.
So yeah, I'm going to stick with these horrible pirates on this one. At least they don't throw their money away for no other reason than Doing The Right Thing.

Where do Steam deals fall into that world view? It's buying games at bargain prices, and the developers don't get as much money, but... the sheer volume of sales that they get during a bargain has made some developers a lot of money. And supposedly Steam gives a bigger percentage to the developers (or so I heard, no proof of this.)

Games aren't expensive at all. I just only buy used and anything else that can be had for under $10. As for playing, I mostly play in the evenings or at night... especially Thief/The Dark Mod. These games just don't feel right when the sun is coming through your window. :)
I will play other games that aren't so dark at any time of the day though, especially multiplayer ones. There are more players online during the day of course.
I've got so many games to play and so many game mods to enjoy that I don't feel the need to go out and buy anything on release anymore. By the time I'm ready to play it, it will be dirt cheap anyhow. Most of the games that I've purchased on release have been crap and not worth the high price.
