This is, imho, a fabulous idea for a game: (
http://penny-arcade.com/report/editorial-article/18-players-one-empty-room-and-a-new-game-type-joust-comes-to-pax)
The idea is this; armed with a Playstation Move controller you must make your opponent move his controller with some speed. If a controller accelerates past a certain point you are out. So you push and pull with one hand, with your feet, your hips and try to keep your own controller still.
It's a team game with a twist. There are traitors. The controller of some of your team will vibrate at the start of the round indicating that you are one the opposite team. Controller ends are coloured according to team.
Anyway, read about it. It sounds great.

I saw no pterodactyls. Therefore this is not Joust.

Damn it. I was thinking that a first-person Joust remake with fancy graphics might just be kinda awesome.
Virtual tug-of-war (or something) doesn't really compare.

Are you serious?
Ruining Joust with a nonsensical modern version would be better than this most innovative of games?
Get.Out.

Calling this "Joust" is what's nonsensical, given the significance of the name in gaming history. "Johann Sebastian Moshpit" would have been far more apropos.

Of course you are correct.
But does the wrong name nullify the point of this thing?
No.
Shadowcat on 8/9/2012 at 14:21
It doesn't nullify it, but it sure as heck distracts from it. It really was a terrible choice.

It's not "ruining" if it's good, and believe me, the vision in my head was
awesome :)
Anyhow, I'll let the thread get back on track now...

Regarding the original Joust; I played a version somewhere within the last 2 years. I can't remember where but it wasn't an original arcade cabinet like I used to play on. This might have been on the PC, but it was an awful conversion.
The original arcade game was one of the first games that I found had really, really satisfying gameplay. There was something so right about the weight of the player and they way you timed your drop onto the enemies.
How on earth would you convert this into a FP version. I'm really interested to know, so please explain.

Regarding the first post. The pics in that link look quite similar to a game called "Ninja Clapping" that I saw at a gaming event last year.
Wonder if the rules are similar.

Well you tell us.
