Just purchased a new P.C.:
AMD Athlon 64x2Dual Core 5000+,2,60GHz,1Gb RAM, with an ASUS EN9400GT Grafic card.Installed DDFix and " Removed the semicolon" in the User.config file to get TDP running again. So far so good.:D
Have encounterd the problem that when I set my gamma level from the hotkeys during gameplay, and then save or pause,it resets to default when I return to gameplay. If I press the key again it "snaps" back to my previous setting. It's not life threatening but it sure does bug me.
Anything I can do?

Change the setting in the cam.cfg file. Make a back up, then open it in Notepad and turn off Word Wrap before saving.

I had this for a while, but it's stopped doing it now and I'm not sure how I fixed it. It may have coincided with me getting a widescreen monitor and installing the WS patch on top of DDFix.

Tried all sugestions to no avail. The problems are not only confined to thief ,but to any game I try to play. With games other than thief it just kicks me back to a very pale desktop. The games are still running in the background, and when I return to gameplay the grafics are very dark and sometimes pixeled to death. On the dark ones I can enter the options/video menu, just barely move the gamma bar,and it snaps back to to my previous setting.Takes about 5 to 6 minutes of gameplay before it happens again. On the pixeled ones I have to shut down and start over.Have "Googled" without success, and I don't even want to talk about the support sevices from ASUS,if it can be called that.Any sugestions?

Dangit! I know there are at least two other methods to fix this not too uncommon problem (should be put in the FAQ if I/we can find those other solutions). Sorry taffers! :(

Maybe use the freeware program pstrip.exe? My machine is an "antique" now; but pstrip is always helpful when running into a gamma problem. My machine is WinXp Sp2, AMD64 3700+, Sapphire X1950Pro-512-agp, 17" old Ctx crt.
In so far as editing the cam.cfg; I'll usually change it to "read only" after I make my changes to it. Doesn't always work 'cause sometimes it seems Thief will create a new one; especially if I accidentally hit a gamma control in-game.

Finally made contact with personel at ASUS,after 10 days of trying. All they can suggest right now is ,update grafic drivers, update mainboard, and update BIOS.I did all that before I even asked for help. Also suggested pulling the card and cleaning the contacts.P.C. mainboard and card are 2 weeks old,but I tried all suggestions from Asus with no changes in behavour. If anyone out there has any idea please feel free to share them(Even stupid ones).Until then my gaming days are on hold:grr:

I could be wrong, because I don't see how it could be implemented, but it sounds to me like some driver or background task is monitoring your computer's graphics, and using some default setting it re-registers every time you change it via other means.
Does your graphics card have a software suite for it? Some sort of software control system that you can adjust things through? Many do. Mine does. In my case it's called Nvidia control panel, and I can change any number of settings with it. I'd suggest checking to see of you have some such software as well, and checking to make sure it isn't set to some default state that resets every time you change it by other means.
This can happen on soundcards, so I don't see why a graphics card couldn't. If I change my speaker setup via control panel, rather than my sound card software, my sound card software sets it back to whatever the software is set to.
Anyways, thought I'd offer the suggestion.

Hi kamyk,
yes my card has an Nvidia chipset with the typical control panel.I fumbled around in the settinge, not changing anything,to see if there was anything
about the gamma.Found nothing.
Sent a return mail to Asus.Tried all there troubleshooting tips and they said I should take the card back to where I bought it.

T2 used to only go dark if I alt+tabbed out without going to the menu but with my new card (X1950 Pro), it does it anytime I alt+tab which is a pain because I do that a lot to write notes, walkthroughs, lootlists, etc
Hmm ive seen this myself, I believe its possibly down to the driver version. But that said I have seen weird things happen in thief that have been fixed by doing a reinstall of Thief, then ddfx, then the Ws patch.
Nw can you confirm gamma with the following configs:
Thief (vanilla) -
Thief + DDfix -
Thief + WS patch -
Thief + DDfix and WS patch -
