The Bonehoard was an authentic Tomb Raider experience, I love to whistle the Indiana Jones theme while getting the Mystic's Soul.

:tsktsk: And yet I remain the only one who understands my apparently incomprehensible anime references... le sigh...

I understand your references; hardly incomprehensible ... I can see where you're coming from. If I were choosing from the manga world, though, I'd choose Rin from Blade of the Immortal; her backstory fits why Garrett might want to help her.
The first time I played Thief TDP, I had just finished Tomb Raider 2, so it was fresh in my mind and I immediately saw parallels... I was actually wondering why it wasn't more TR like, esp when I was fell off ledges because I couldn't see my feet, and it took me a few levels to get a feel for Thief's own, different vibe. But Garrett and Lara themselves are from very different worlds, literally and metaphorically, so I don't see the partner-in-crime angle.

Not really a him -helping- her relationship, or at least thats not what I was suggesting. On the tech end Winry would end up helping Garrett, and as for Seras, the relationship would go both ways.
I made that comment because most of the people here just seemed to completely skip over that comment and replied to the ones before/after it. Sry, being ignored just gives me a bug up my ass sometimes.

Garrett is NOT very agile, atleast not like lara croft & the gang.
The differences are, indeed, easy to picture.
Me, in TR1, safety-drop veteran already after a few levels: *button* *button* *button* "Yeah!"
Me, in Return to Cathedral: "CLIMB THE *#!% STAIR LEDGE, AARGH, THERE'S A ZOMBIE COMING THIS WAY!"

...:And that is what I really like about Garrett; he's not really THAT superman-ish. I really hate characters like lara croft.
Garret doesn't need to be agile. He'd sneak right on by all the enemies guarding whatever treasure needs taking and ghost his way outta there.
Imagine how easy the TR games would be if it had a stealth system like Thief.
And gas arrows.

One thing I never had clear is that the ability for Garrett to be invisible in shadows is actually a superpower or added realism for the stealth factor?
Is the visibility gem an actual item or a tool for the player?

I had always liked the idea that Garrett's Keeper training allowed him to shroud himself beyond mere hiding in shadows. But that's not a popular idea, so I keep it to myself.:cheeky: In the first briefing, a Keeper hides in broad daylight. In the first games, Garrett can stand in a tiny wedge of shadow and be invisible. In all the games we see example after example of supernormal abilities. I think what is normal for that world is supernatural for this one, and not a big deal for them at all.
I believe we are supposed to go along with the idea that the lightgem and compass are items Garrett carries, but they are obviously really part of the UI/HUD. In Escape! and A Keeper's Training it would've been nice if Garrett had to pick them up. Concept art in the manuals would've been good, too. Taking the concept of the TDS compass-plus-lightgem, he could wear them like a wristwatch, and keep his hands free.

I would have loved to see a difficulty level without the visibility gem.

I believe there's a tweak for removing the UI/HUD, but I can't be sure. Or is there only the TDS Minimalist Project? And I don't know what's involved if you only want the lightgem removed, or only the health shields, etc.
