I told ya, man... :p He's embraced his destiny and he knows he's become the One True Keeper. Not only is he reliving his childhood memory from the other perspective, he's trying on the title for the first time. He's not ashamed of the KIND of Keeper he is. The others were Not-As-True, or were False. He never learned how to use the Glyphs, only to read those that don't require a Translator (now dead), and an Interpretor (soon dead). This has to amuse him. He can never abuse the Glyphs, get mired in prophecy, or become addicted to their power. The corruptive power of the Glyphs in the hands of false or weak Keepers was inevitable and required the failsafe. In that moment, he has absolutely no reason to believe he will be troubled by the Keepers, their Glyphs, or their prophecies ever again. If he's the One TRUE Keeper, and he's a Master Thief who hates what the Keepers stand for, then he can gloat for a moment, before trying to put it all behind him. He doesn't like his ties to anybody, even if he acknowledges gratitude way down inside. He has to feel truly free for the first time, even if it's fleeting.

I just wondered how different Garret interacts with dying people thorught the games...
Well, Boxo the Bassman makes it well for himself, you know.
jtr7 on 20/3/2008 at 00:41
As far as we know, he's not a dying person, but he wasn't doing so well in Cragscleft. The only interaction Garrett had with the unwell TDP/Gold Basso was carrying him out.:cheeky:
Dropping him, picking him up again, dropping him again, picking him up again, nearly drowning him, and so on. He had to be fit enough for that rescue. Heh.:p

Well, obviously whats-his-face is a forgettable character. I thought Garrett always had the lockpicks. Like, instead of getting quarters for his teeth, he got scraps of metal, a key to the Hammer factory, and a mold. Bam, you've got lockpicks!
One thing about TMA, if Garrett had been charmed in a way after his oath, I thought he had some sense of revenge.
It makes me think, though. With the Hammers and Mechanists actually helping Garrett out a few times where as the pagens didn't do much for him, I would think Garrett would be a bit closer to the Hammers and Mechanists. He's no religious man, but Garrett didn't even know about Karras' evil plan, and he didn't really have any reason to hate him. For goodness sakes, Viktoria took his eye out! You'd think he'd be wary of the pagans...

I could never forget poor old Farkus, or Farkus Functionals. Again, he wasn't a dying man, and Garrett didn't get to interact with him while Farkus was alive at all in that scenario. Thank you, Farkus, for selling Garrett the lockpicks and instructions on how to use them. :(
use_pickhelp: "Since selling thief-tools with no instructions can produce angry thieves, Farkus provides a brief 'owner's manual' for his wares."
M5LOKPIK: "Lockpick Instruction Manual
To use a lockpick, use-and-hold it on a locked door for a few seconds. The
handle of the door will move slowly to the open position, and you'll hear a
continuous clicking, until the handle turns and the door pops open.
If you hear only a single short click, try using the other lockpick
If the handle jiggles but ends up only moving part of the way, you'll need
to switch lockpicks, and continue picking the door. You may need to switch
picks more than once.
If neither lockpick works, it means that the lock cannot be picked, and it's
time to go find the key.
Note that you must be quite close to a door to pick it, closer than you need to be to open it normally."
Sigh...
OQgravefarkus: "Here lies Bernard Farkus
Murdered in cold blood before his time
Beloved brother of Emily and Clive"
Rest in Peace, Bernie.

Garrett is wary of the Pagans in power, yes, especially the god-like ones, but he knows the Pagan people are generally harmless, until he sees them preparing for war. When he faces Viktoria again in TMA, he knows he has to play it safe, or he will lose. He is hostile but knows he is vulnerable. I am firm in my belief he was spellbound to weaken his resistance to Viktoria's suggestions and plans. Good thing she generally knew what she was talking about, but she was pushing Garrett to do a lot of dangerous dirty-work that Garrett didn't find amusing. It may have been a secret wish of vengeance on Viki's part, that maybe Garrett would get killed, but really she hoped he would succeed. In TDS, he's been assured by Artemus--whom he knows would never lie--that the Pagans won't hurt him if he does them favors. Dyan reassures him further by saying that Viktoria wouldn't want her to kill him either.
The Hammers are very tolerant of Garrett. They treat people of far lesser crimes and sins much worse, often "accidentally" killing them while punishing them, and acting like it was the Builder's judgment that they died.
Any help Garrett got from the Mechanists was not the intent of the Mechanists. It was Garrett helping himself at their expense. When Garrett got his mechanical eye, Karras was a Hammerite, not yet a Mechanist. That came later, but Father Karras was trying to bribe the skilled thief he knew had "killed" the Trickster, to possibly recruit him for his campaign against the other Pagans he considered a threat.
