Lust is a different issue. Did Garrett feel some sort of attraction? Maybe. I would buy into that idea long before the idea that they loved one another.
Er... exactly how much lubrication would a bark-skin need...?

One can lust, flirt, and feel attracted with out consummating these feelings. Hell they can do it with out even realizing they are.

I think a love interest is damaging to the narrative flow of Garrett's character. I don't think his interactions with Viktoria in TMA were done well, whether intended as a budding relationship or not. It felt plastic to me. I didn't feel it, and Garrett didn't convince me that he felt it either. I know that's just me, and that doesn't mean a relationship never happened. But I stand by it, I think Garrett would need to experience some profound life changing emotions in order to make a love story believable. The major events of the games aren't enough either, Garrett typically deals with the worst humanity and life has to offer, and this typically drives him deeper into his cynicism.

The hints were there, the creators said so themselves. sure, it could have been more pronounced. also, yeah, Garrett gets more into cynicism, i think the death of Viktoria made him extremely bitter, just look how angry he was at the end of thief 2. however, just because your cynical doesn't mean that you can't feel, or love. they had a chemistry that started from a mutual need of one another, which began to grow. I think if they brought her back and did it right, a relationship would be realistic and welcome. Garrett deserves it, quite honestly.

I myself, cannot understand how far Garrett and Viktoria went. I mean, if they, er, commited "fruitless love" (trying not to scare the kiddies out there), Garrett would be risking some splinters. :o
Also, in such an event, the term "wood" would have a whole new meaning. :cheeky:
Thank you! I'm here, Saturdays...

I definitely picked up a vibe already from the very first introduction of Viktoria in the briefing video of The Sword. Hard to take that nauseating music as anything but an obvious reference to romance, even if it is done in a mocking way (like, Garret is going "yeaaaahh as if I'd ever fall for that kind of thing..." but maybe us, the viewers, are going "yeaaahhh right, you're human like the rest of us, Garrett" ;)). Then, he seemed to be quite trustful towards her, allowing her to contact him in a pretty casual way, even if he was holding a dagger in his hand when he opened the door.
But I was sure that she became a mortal enemy after a certain incident and to be honest I still don't see a credible way out of that. I am in firm agreement with everyone who dislike the fact that they were friendly again in Thief 2. It is just not believable. At all. When I saw Viktoria again in Thief 2 I actually immediately assumed that a bloody fight with her would follow at some point. It was completely baffling to see Garret without extreme and utter hate towards her, let alone be so cooperative. For any redemption to be possible at the very least there should have been indication that she was completely controlled by the Trickster and felt super sorry about it, but even then it would have seemed kinda weak. Oh well, at least it was kinda nice of her to sacrifice herself in the end there. I guess we can consider her redeemed, just the order it went down doesn't make sense. It's first you redeem, then you regain the trust, not the other way round! Oh well.

She's a wood nymph, doing what is in her nature to do. Garrett doesn't have to actually be attracted beyond the physical, just have his guard lowered, giving her too much control, so she can lead him to his doom. And that's not outside the powers of women in general, but with her, she can tailor her appearance through sheer will, without owning clothes or makeup or perfumes, to get the job done. And then in TMA, she forces Garrett into a blood oath.
