V: "I've put vengeance aside. The earth keeps my promise for me. Now you
have my oath on it, I'm cursed if I break the covenant, now your answer."
G: "I... agree..."
V: "Good. The Earth keeps your promise for you."
I watched this cutscene again and I heard Garrett saying :'I... agree...that...'
It's very silent, but I'm pretty sure it's there. Seems that if I'm right this lilttle 'covenant' wasn't so free-willed on G's side. But I could be wrong, so could someone verify this? Just listen careful.

In the german translation of this cutscene, you hear clearly "Ich ... stimme euch zu, dass ... ". "dass" is the direct translation of the conjunction "that". So I think you're right, Pitch.

I watched both cutscenes (*pose*) and there is definitly a 'that'.
He does not directly agree to colaborate. But she understands it deliberately that way.
I myself was really freaked when I saw the blood on the stone, thinking about whatever magic she could do to him when her blood runs through his veins. But even if he might not be persistend to magic he still has a strong will and in my imagination would be able to resist to whatever.
It did not happen, though. I still think he was not forced to any feeling by her. She is after all presented as somewhat directly and I don't think that would fit to her.

No, no! I didn't mean that she was somehow trying to control him. I meant only that she didn't let him to finish his sentence. He was trying to tell something (not actually agree to any 'blood covenant') and then she grabbed his hand in the right moment - to make it look like she understood Garrett's words as 'yes'.
Anyway, I just wanted to point out this detail - and now we are all free to speculate. :)

I used Thief Series FAQ (Technical / Purchasing / Etc.) which pointed me to site for the transcripts of all briefings and cutscenes.

I asumed something mentioned in the FAQ on this site would be accurate.
But I doubt if it would make any difference if Garret really agreed to the covenant or not. Once Viktoria had mixed their blood, the magic would slowly take effect and there was nothing he could do about it.

That's a really good point. American Indians have a lot of culture built around the concept of "blood brothership." (Or perhaps it's just been romaniticised to the point where it looks that way.) Brothership would probably have worked just as well as infatuation for Viki's purposes.
Still, it's fun to imagine that she'd have other designs on him... as the fence says, he must be awfully strong... :)

Well...I DON'T fully believe they have a chance. But you have to admit...it is fun to think of them having a chance. I drew that out of complete boredom Metal Dawn. Nice thought though.

That's ok.
Don't worry about it! It's good that you brought that point up. :)
I need to learn to keep my mouth shut as well.
