What exactly is a magic twanger? :weird:
...and does one need Cialis?

It's one of those uncomfortable kid's show sayings that somehow got past the censors. Or maybe "twanger" just didn't register as one of a thousand dirty euphemisms back then.

Gamespot used to be a great site for reviews. All the great reviewers have left though, mostly after the Kane & Lynch fiasco. Greg Kasavin, Jason Ocampo, Jeff Gerstman etc. have all left. The only half-decent reviewer there anymore is Kevin VanOrd.

I didn't realize that. So what was the Kane & Lynch fiasco? There doesn't seem to be a rating for the PC version.

No-one knows the real story, but basically Gamespot gave a what is considered a low score to Kane & Lynch (6.0). Afterwards, the reviewer (Jeff Gerstmann) got fired. It was suspected that he got fired because Eidos was having a marketing campaign at Gamespot for K&L, and they were disappointed with the score. It's not known if that was the reason why he got fired, but many other reviewers left at the same time including Greg Kasavin and Jason Ocampo, all three of them had been working at the site basically since it first started in 1996. Coincidentally, they were the best reviewers there (IMO) and pretty much the only people who knew and cared about PC gaming. I don't know if reviewers are really getting paid to give high scores to hyped games, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. I haven't trusted reviews in years for this reason.

Well that certainly explains the major decline in the quality of their content. I had often wondered about that. Thanks for sharing.

I had wondered the same thing, thanks. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he got fired for giving an honest review.
