Yeah - it's funny how his first two plays are very close to
(whether unconsciously, consciously, or mere coincidence...lol) the "Garrett" inside of him.....:cheeky:
Nice pic/info from his bio on WHAT - so thought I'd post here below. But have to believe Stephen has been here and read us discussing the game and more importantly - how essential his portrayal of Garrett was to the success of them
(obviously foremost credit to the LGS folks).
Hope Eidos Montreal understands that and at the very least has reached out to him about Thief 4 - if in fact, Garrett will still be the main character.
Old Post, but great read from Mike C on Stephen coming into LGS to do the Garrett voice overs - but his response to an email I
(and others sent) on the sad news of LGS closing their doors: (

I posted the link above - but worth re posting IMO is Mike Chrzanowski's
(LGS designer) comments
(for those who hadn't seen them) on working with Stephen. I especially loved the part about Stephen coming into LGS under stealth to record them...:D
Quote:
Steve Russell kicks ass, I got all excited the day that he came into the studio to record for Thief GOLD. I remember the time we all heard Raoul for the first time, we all fell on the floor laughing because it was so damned perfect. To this day, me and my brother run around the house singing,
"My Lady Valarius is so so sad....." & when it came time to write conversations for Thief 2, I knew that I had to write something perfect for Steve.
I was a huge fan of his dumb guard voice and after a stressful day, I sat down and listened to all of his voices in the game and wrote the Benny conversation that all you guys love. My only comment to Steve was to act drunk, I knew he would do it perfectly. The first time I heard the conversation, I had tears rolling down my cheeks from laughing so hard. I played it over and over and made everyone in the Thief Pit watch it, we all laughed pretty hard that day.
Anytime we got new SR speech recorded, we all got excited and popped it into our levels ASAP. The first time I really enjoyed playing my levels was when I had put in the Benny conversation and the Garrett voice overs. Thief wouldn't be what it was if it wasn't for Steve's incredible voice talent.
He would sneak into the studio, do all the recording for three hours and then sneak out again. Not many of us got to meet him because he was to stealthy. When I saw him standing behind the Mic, he was dressed all in black and looked just like one would expect Garrett to look.
Steve thought it was funny that I wanted him to autograph all of my Thief GOLD copies, but he is a huge talent, and I felt like I got the signature of a superstar that day.
If there is ever a Thief movie, there is no doubt in my mind who should play Garrett. Steve made Garrett who he is and we all wrote Garrett's words with Steve's voice in our heads.
