If anything, it depends on how frisky the guys in montreal feel like Effing up the thief universe ;)...

Unless EM will make a retelling of the first games, they will be
forced to make a story involving the girl, because the previous game had her. :erg:
I disagree. They can pretty much do whatever they want with the story. From where I sit there is no obligation to actually use the girl or even mention her in passing. It was used as a stylistic means to close the symbolic circle at the end of TDS, because it sure as hell didn't look like there would be another game back then. I'd say all options are open for the fourth installment.

I wouldn't mind if they move away from the T3 story all-together, swipe it under the carpet like it never existed... and redo it all from the end of T2.
If he goes indiana-jones style or something similiarly heroish, I'll be carpet-bombing Eidos Montreal.

Remember, the old keeper in the beginning of Thief 1 let Garrett go. Garrett made his own choice whether to keep living in the streets or go with the creepy old geezer. The girl had the exact opposite expression in her face O_O that Garrett had >:| when the old man was holding him. The girl doesn't look like she'd have the courage to go with the one-eyed ghost, like Garrett had back then.

I don't like any of these choices. I want Garrett back as the protagonist in T4.

That's what this thread is about Tannar; what happens to Garrett at the end of T4
(Edit: with the exception of the first option). We're hopefully assuming here that EM will be wise enough to keep Garrett as the protagonist. Hopefully. ;)
That's why I like the 'disappears without a trace' option; I'd love to keep the mystery of Garrett alive. :thumb:

Attention to everyone who didn't understand my terrible presentation of the options:
The only choice that removes Garrett from T4 is the first one.

Oh do stop yelling Platinum .....
I edited, okay? :p ;)

Ah, sorry, I misunderstood. :o But I still don't like any of the choices. I want Garrett back as the protagonist in T5 and T6 and T7...:sly:

Garrett has been a selfish character most of his life; but, occasionally, he's shown that he's still a reluctant hero.
So, in THIEF 4,I would like to see Garrett make some sort of final, uncharacteristic act of self-sacrifice which has great implications for the world around him. But no-one knows about what he did on their behalf, except perhaps one character who is the nearest thing he has to a friend or confidant.
Basically, he dies without any fanfare (without most people even being aware of it) and the world still generally regards him as criminal scum.
But someone who knows different is left behind, to carry on his legacy.
I think that ending carries with it the idea of redemption, even if he has few regrets for the life he chose.
