Nope, definitely from Karras. Although it's not actually mentioned in either game, it'd appear that Garrett's mechanical eye was a primitive version of the eyes used for the Childern of Karras (robots/Watchful Eyes).

Definitely from Karras, yeah. It has been the subject of a couple of high quality FMs I remember playing too.

Yes it's from Karras but he was a hammerite at the time he made it. He was forming the mechanists but hadn't broken off by then.

Every robot has its own little steam engine for such gizmos. Since it seems to be a necessity, where does Garrett hide this little device on himself?

Zylon, was there a thread about this both unimaginative and illiterate nickname? I suppose I missed a couple of new threads during the last months.

The "security cameras" run off of electricity. The scouting orbs may be powered by whatever powers Garrett's eye. The mechanical eye is one of Karras's masterpieces since it either runs off of Garrett's own electro-chemical pulses, or maybe one of the puposes of the fluid he fills the eye with is like an acid bath soaking a copper strip and a zinc strip... I dunno.... Whatever powers it is somehow able to generate precise motion, communication with his brain, and communication using etheral waves with the scouting orbs.
But, of course, I'm only speculating.:erg:

Maybe he has to wind it up regularly. Might be possible, since you see him cleaning it and maintaining it in that cutscene where the keepers tell him there are no trees left in his quarter. I have a kitchen clock that needs to be winded up. It works some days then runs off. Guess a few days is an acceptable amount of time for what he does.

Not to mention that there was a leftover, unused object in TDP/TG called ClockworkEye, which is in fact Garrett's eye.
Maybe at that point the devs just didn't have a good story as to how exactly Garrett got it and how it works.
